As hard as we all try, we are human and sometimes
when reading a cemetery we miss a grave covered with leaves, fireants, or bushes. Sometimes the
headstone has sunk and is mostly underground. Our area also has many graves only marked with iron ore
rocks and even many unmarked graves. There are headstones that have long ago been destroyed by the elements
or even vandalizm, and are hard to impossible to read the details. We would appreciate it if you
would let us know if you did not find your relative which was buried here, and would appreciate your letting us
use the information you know about them. With the combined efforts of us all, we can make the Upshur
County website bigger and better.
James Pace
Born: May 7, 1811 Died:
Dec 19, 1900
Per Ronald Wade - James Pace - Born in Georgia, on
7 Nov 1839 in Troup, Ga. he married Catherine Cohorn (1816 – 1896). They were living in
Troup Co., Ga. during the time of the 1840 Federal Census and by 1850 they were
in Carroll Co., Ga. By 1870 they had moved to Upshur Co., Texas.
Their children included Sarah Elizabeth Pace born about 1841, Thomas Pace born
about 1845, Mary Pace born about 1847, James Pace born about 1848, Martha Pace
born about 1850, Benn Pace born about 1852, John Pace born about 1854, Alexander Pace (1855-1869 buried also here), Amanda Pace born about 1856 and William Pace born about 1858. I feel that
both James and James Jr. both 1848 served in the same unit in the Civil War but
have yet to confirm this. Alexander probably served as well.

Cemetery appears to have been bulldozed at one time----markers
probably disturbed and possibly graves lost.
