HOPEWELL CEMETERY
Our thanks go to the Upshur County Historical
Commission for allowing us to use their reading of Hopewell Cemetery. The
reading was done by: Thurman Hearn, Thurman Cagle, Durward Amos,
Finley Tucker, Garland Bullock, and Curtis Hart. It was completed
June 1, 2000. Thanks also go to Lea
Ann Tedford for the use of her partial reading. We have
merged the two to help insure no one was missed. There are many unmarked
graves, and graves marked only with native rocks.
Update: Thanks to Billy L Thompson,
Sue Kennington, and Fendley Tucker, Secretary/Treasurer of the Hopewell
Cemetery, for the recent update. This should make the listing
current through May 24, 2009.
Update: Thanks to Sandra L Spann & Geraldine L Braswell for completely
photographing the cemetery in April of 2008!

Ga., the son of
James W. Kennedy (1814 ? 1864) and
Saleta Ann Peacock (1823 ? 1894). On 16 Feb 1869 in Ga., he married
Sarah Elizabeth Alice Still (1853 ? 1934 who is buried at Enon Cemetery in Upshur County,
Texas). They had a daughter,
Ella Elizabeth Alice Kennedy (1885 ? 1965 who married
Surrie Robert Fenlaw).
During the Civil War he enlisted in Co. E,
3rd Battalion, Georgia Infantry. |

Margaret Elizabeth Ellisor was born in S.C., the daughter of
Frederick Ellisor (born 1775). On 10 Jun 1828 in S.C. she
married John T. Bouknight (1789-1845) and their children were
Alexander Osborn Bouknight (1829 ?
1877), Rebecca Frances Bouknight (1833 ? 1879), David H. E.
Bouknight (1835 ? 1913), Louis J. Bouknight (1838-1936), James
Logan Bouknight (1842-1919), Martha Mahalia Bouknight
(1846-1893), After the death of Mr. Bouknight she married John
Koon (1812-1900) and around 1852 they moved to Upshur Co., Texas
around 1852. Their children were Mary Koon born 1849, Amanda
Melvinia Koon (1853-1898) and Eliza Tince Koon born 1856).
