GRICE CEMETERY

|
This is an old reading done in the 1970's . We hope to have an update
for this in the near future.
Thanks to Nancy
Faulk White Adams for the pictures and updates!
Thanks to Jane Eubanks, Maretta Burnett De Lesdernier,
& Tom Mitchell for their pictures.
UPDATE: Thanks
to Geraldine Little Braswell & Sandy Spann for
photographing the entire cemetery Oct. 2008 for us to post online. There
are MANY gravesites marked with rocks and unreadable funeral home
markers
John Daniel "Tobe" Davis gave the land
for the Grice Cemetery, his name first appears on a deed dated 1895; however,
the first burial was the daughter of P K & Joanne Williams in 1864.
Since other tombstone "rocks" are in that area, there could
have been other burials during that same period. The cemetery is now called
Grice Cemetery; however it was originally called Hamil's Chapel Graveyard.
This information via Milton Dacus, Grice researcher. (See above link for
the Grice History by Milton Dacus) It was also published in the Gilmer
Mirror in 1968, then Donna Kouba wrote an updated article referring to
Milton's information in the book "Country Faith and Fate....Churches
and Cemeteries of East Texas" (Thanks
to Sheila Poole for this information)

and Amey Anna "Ann" Evers Davis (born 1832 Ga.).

John Daniel "Tobe" Davis gave
the land for the Grice Cemetery, his name first appears on a deed
dated 1895; however, the first burial was the daughter of P. K. &
Joanne Williams in 1864. Since other tombstone "rocks"
are in that area, there could have been other burials during that
same period. The cemetery is now called Grice Cemetery; however it
was originally called Hamil's Chapel Graveyard. This
information via Milton Dacus, Grice researcher. |
