founder of the Dickson Colored Orphanage in Gilmer, Texas.Lewis' given name is spelled either Lewis
or Louis in numerous places.The
surname is also spelled numerous ways, such as Dixon, Dixson and Dickson.
Lewis and Sallie had four children, one of whom became a Minister of the
Gospel.In the 1920 census their
children have all left home but they have three of their grandchildren living
with them - Marvin/Martin Ford; Sallie L Ford; Randolph Ford.Lewis Dixon is entered as being buried in
this cemetery due to two facts:1.On the death certificate
block for place of burial, it states the following...'State Colored
Place'.So believe he is buried next
to Sallie, his first wife, in the Dickson Orphanage Cemetery.2. A burial for him at another place cannot
be found.It
should be noted that at one time all the brothers decided on one main
spelling - Dixon; however, W L could not do that as he had a large amount of
legal papers pertaining to the Orphanage that were signed W L Dickson.Therefore, W L was the only one of the
brothers using the spelling Dickson, same as the Orphanage, which he founded.
