James came to Upshur County, Texas with his mother and sibblings as a young man, his father having died when he was a child. There he met his wife, Rebecca Moore and they were married in 1879. To this union were born five children; John R., James H., Albert, Allie and Ella Lee.
Around 1898 they moved to Hopkins County, Texas with other family members.
Rebecca died in 1920 and James died in 1945. They are buried
in the Sharp Cemetery in Wood County, Texas, where they were living at
the time.
Before January of 1879, she would take her children to Texas with some of her family, the Wilburns, and settle in Upshur County, Texas near Big Sandy. There her son, James N., married Rebecca Adeline Moore; Melissa married John (Little John) Hoover; Elias Burton married Mary Jane Moore; Sara Ellen married Reuben Lafet Steelman , and Manerva married her second husband, Thomas K. Ellison.
Around 1895, the family moved again, this time to northeast Texas, Hopkins and Wood Counties.
Manerva, at the age of 93, had out lived both of her daughters, as well
as both of her husbands. She and her two older sons, Jim and Burt,
are buried in Sharp Cemetery in Wood County. Her daughter, Ella,
is buried in Hopewell Cemetery,
Upshur County. Henry is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Hopkins
County and Melissa, in Mt. Sterling Cemetery, Hopkins County.
