I have been researching the family of John High born 1790 N.C. who came here with his family from George. His daughter Sarah Jane High Goolsby died about 1902. She is buried with her husband William, her sister Martha High Chapman Wise, , brother in law William Wise, her sister in law Lucy Chapman High widow of her brother John T. High at Harris Chapel. I have not been able to establish any burial records for her or her father John High. Except for census records there doesn't seem to be any written records of John such as his death or burial. Both John High and Sarah's husband William J. Goolsby were deceased by 1880. There is more than one John High in Jasper County Ga at the time our John High was there. Should you be aware of any early funeral palor or other records for the period between 1870 and 1900 I would appreciate the information. DNA test indicate that John High was decended from Thomas High early 1700 in Va. But we have never determined who John High's parents or wife was. If I could find out who Sarah High Goolsby's mother was it would solve my brick wall . Her sister swere Martha High Wise , Susan Elizabeth High Clark, Julia High Cummings. Her brothers were Wiley T. High 1816 and John T. High 1828 Also, Grave Lawrence wrote a book about the 12 generation of High from Thos High born about 1647 In England. But we could not place our John High born N.C. 1790. But DNA puts John in this family. Ed's DNA matches others with paper trails We find him in Jasper County Ga . His children were born in Ga. He is on the census there in 1850. We next pick him up in Titus County in 1860 He is living with Sarah High Goolsby. He is on the 1870 census for Titus age 84? Which would make him born 1786-1790 He dissappears by 1880. Sarah is then living in the house hold with her son William and his wife Alice and there two children. Per 1880 Morris Coundy Censue William Goolsby has died by 1878 Son William and Alice move to Greenville, Hunt Co. I assume Sarah stays in Dainger field . Her nephew John W High is sheriff of Morris county at one time. She helped raise him after his parents John T. and Lucy died. She dies in 1902. Death records start in 1903 in Texas. I did not find her in Morris County Records Titus County Court house burned during that period. She Buried in Harris Chapel Cem. As is her sister Martha High Chapman Wise. Another sister is Susan High Clark who is buried un marked grave at Clark Cemetery. Brother John T. is buried at Rondo Cemetery. There is one unmarked grave with the family at Harris Chapel . It could be John HIgh But it could also be Pinkey High son of Lucy High who is buried beside him. Where did Sarah live between 1880 and 1902 I could not find her at any of her childrens homes. She lived in Daingerfield for approx 40 years, you would think I could find information on who she was. She applied for a confederate pension in Sept of 1899 or 1900 (two different date on papers) I have a lot of information on her Goolsby down line. I have down lines on her all her sibblings including sister Julia Ann who remained in Ga. But no where can I find who her mother was. Or any name for the wife of John High John High came in by boat at Jefferson with his large family and some slaves. His son Wiley High died on the way out to Texas That is my husbands line from Wiley, through his son Robert A. High 1849 Ga. I would need to find some funeral palor records on John High or some records on Sarah that would name her parents. Maybe a newspaper clipping. Perhaps a black High descendent would have information on the Jasper County days or the trip to Texas before 1860. Anyway more information on the Highs can be found on my Web site www.crystallady.com Genealogy-surnames -High family. Follow that sequence when you get to site.
