NAME: Cathy Riddle
EMAIL: KAYO MAX B@aol.com
NOTE: 70101 Martin Road Edwardsburg, MI 49112
SURNAMES: RIDDLE
QRYTEXT: I am looking for information about two children of Isaac Riddle 1777-1861 and wife Anna Grizzell. I am interested in sons William & John. I had another researcher give an indication that son William was born abt 1802/1803 and was thought to have died young or been a batchelor. Anyone have a clue about what really happened to William or John? Were they listed in Isaac's will? If William died as a child, where is he buried? I am looking for the parents & siblings of my William Riddle, born 19 March 1803 in KY (this date from his tombstone); married Polly Parks in 1830 in Monroe Co, IN; died 13 Sept 1840 in Monroe Co, IN. Their children: William T, Priscilla Caroline, George Marion (my line) & Harrison Riddle. There may have been others that died as child between William T born 1831 & Priscillla born 1835 but I've not found them. Cannot explain the 4 year gap between children at this point. My William Riddle 1803-1840 came to Indiana sometime before 1830 when he married Polly Parks in Monroe County. He is listed on the 1830 census as well as a John Riddle (who I am currently investigating). My William briefly owned a parcel of land in Morgan County, IN (one county north), then sold and purchased land in Monroe County in the mid 1830's. His children inherited that land after he died. William is listed in 1840 Monroe County census and died in that year. John is not listed and I assume he moved on - there is no indication of probate for him in Monroe County and he's not listed in cemetery records so I assume he didn't die there. Could these be the sons of Isaac & Anna Riddle? Could they have come to Indiana together? Did John later move on to Texas too? Could my William Riddle be the son William of Isaac & Anna Grizzell Riddle? I am hoping that this might just be the connection I have been looking for. Happy to share info about my William Riddle 1803-1840 and family. Any clues and information greatly appreciated. Please email to: KAYO MAX B@aol.com

SURNAMES: BARRETT
QRYTEXT: Seeking any information on the CALVIN and WILLIAM BARRETT families. They were the sons of DOMINIC BARRETT who immigrated from County Cork Ireland in the late 1700's. CALVIN and WILLIAM came to Texas from Anson County North Carolina in the early 1850's. They both purchased land in Titus County. WILLIAM gave a portion of his land to the railroad in consideration of the railroad establishing a town which was first called "Barrett" and then this name was later changed to "Winfield." CALVIN married EDITH E. HILTON and they had 10 children. They were THOMAS, BUD, BURRELL, SAM, ALEX, ANDREW, LEROY, CHARLOTTE, LIZZIE and MARY. WILLIAM married ELLEN J. HUNTLY and they had seven children. They were PATSY, ELLA, LON, WHIT, JIMMIE, JESS and DAUSEY. The Muster Rolls of Titus County show that CALVIN and his son THOMAS went into the Confederate army. His other son BUD also went in but is not shown on the Muster Rolls. WILLIAM also joined from Titus county. After the war ended WILLIAM had a very hard time coping with the fact that he had lost his fortune in slaves and property. He began to drink heavily. His death was untimely because he fell from his wagon and it ran over him.

Listed in 1860 Census Robison Springs, Autauga County, AL - place of birth South Carolina. Married 12/19/1852 to Henrietta A. WARD b.1831 - d.1891, also buried Snowhill Cemetery. Children Augustus, George Lafayette (a.k.a. Fate), Columbus (a.k.a. Lum), Antonette (a.k.a. Nettie), Maggie, Newton Walter, William Robert (a.k.a. Bob). Evan PRESLEY is mentioned as a child by word-of-mouth in the family, but not yet documented. Also, Taylor (b.1874 - d.1875 buried Snowhill Cemetery). W.T. PRESLEY mentions "the little boys" in his journal 1878-1879, which could be Bob and Evan. I haven't found anything regarding Henrietta WARD's parents (do know she was born in AL). My grandfather Walter PRESLEY married Minnie Lee SIMS - don't know anything about the SIMS. In W.T. PRESLEY's journal, he mentions Uncle Dave and Grandpa YANCEY - need some help there. Also, the burial place of W.T. PRESLEY's children is unknown, with the exception of Bob, Walter, Maggie, and Taylor. Augustus isn't mentioned in W.T. PRESLEY's journal of 1878- 1879, he was the oldest child, age 7 in the 1860 Autauga County AL Census. Thanks for any help.

Listed as 41 years old, farmer, born in South Carolina. There were two females and one male PRESLEY also enumerated in this family, but relationships unknown. They were Isabella M. age 18, Juliette M. age 22, and Columbus W. age 26. Isabella was born in North Carolina, Juliette was born in Georgia, and Columbus was born in South Carolina. Since there are several correlations to W.T. PRESLEY - birth places, names (which appear to have carried over into W.T.'s family), Autauga County, AL, I could use some help in tying these two families together; if there is in fact a legitimate tie. Thanks, Dan.

Edison born approx. 1823 who married a William Murphy b. approx. 1823, they were from Tennessee according the 1860/1870 Titus County Texas censuses. There were three children born; William Travis b. 1855, married Nancy (2nd wife with two sons) John Wesley b. 1853 moved to DeKalb TX, died young **Mary Emily(Emmie/Emma) b. May 26,1856, died March 11, 1940, married John Sanders Rogers from McNairy County Tennessee in 1872. Titus County 1860 census shows Ransom Rogers (my gggf)and Jeminia (spelling?) from N. Carolina b. 1824/1825 via McNairy Co. TN. Ransom's parents, John (my ggggf)and Celia Rogers came with them; there was another son, Benjamin, two daughters, Nancy Rogers Johnson, and another daughter (name unknown)Rogers Spencer. Everything seems to match up with conversations according to my mother, Floy Lucille Rogers Clark b.1917 in Morris Country. The Rogers and Murphy families lived "between the creeks", 3/4 miles north of Omaha, TX, , during the mid-to-late 1800s. That would be White Oak Creek and Sulpher River (they were sometimes referred to as 'Creekers') **That is how Emily Rogers met and married John Sanders Rogers (my ggf) in 1872. They had three children: John Sanders Rogers Jr., Robert Calvin Rogers born 1880, my grandfather, and Mary E(mmie/mma/mily) who married Zebediah (Ed) Hall and bore 9 children, one son was named Eidson, her grandmother's maiden name. QRYTEXT: Looking for any information or verification on George KING, son of James R. KING and Mary Margaret STEWART, whose family were murdered in 1888 and supposedly buried in the southwest corner of the Coookville cemetery. Will SCHULZE, Judge W.B. McLEAM, Tom WALKER, Albert LUNSFORD, S.P. POUNDERS and Sheriff G.B. DICKSON all figure in the story, which begins: In 1888, the King family consisted of the husband and wife and seven children. They were tenants on a small farm located 3 miles south of Cookville and were generally well known as quiet, religious law abiding citizens. John Shulze and his family lived about 2 miles, more or less, due east of the King home, southeast of Cookville, and consisted of the husband and wife and two boys, Will and George. George was not too bright, and had six fingers on each hand. Sometime, about September 1888, Will Shulze and King's oldest daughter, then under 18, eloped, and on some kind of forged order purporting to be signed by King, Shulze obtained a marriage license and they were married. King did not like Shulze, was bitterly opposed to the marriage, and refused to let the couple come into his home. No doubt a number of people heard him say he was going to prosecute Shulze for forgery. In December, 1888, after King had rented another farm a mile or so further south, where he expected to move at the end of the year, during a cold spell he killed some hogs, and instead of spreading the meat out to salt at the place he was living, he did so at the smoke house of the place where he expected to move. King had George, his oldest son, to sleep there at night to protect the meat. There were no near neighbors to where King lived. The next morning George King reported when he went home he found his mother and father and five of the children murdered and the house burned to the ground. The oldest of these children was a girl about 16 years old. When George reported what he had found, the whole community for miles around was in a turmoil. The Cookville School practically had to suspend for a week.. Shulze was the one that was at once suspected as the perpetrator of the crime, since he had made threats, so it was said, to kill King if he prosecuted him. In a day or so a vigilante committee was created consisting of something like 200 men, some well armed. They rode about over the community trying to locate the perpetrator of the crime, a rather ridiculous procedure unless they thought somebody would confess or admit it.

QRYTEXT: I am looking for information on John Robert Bugg GEE who lived in Titus County sometime after 1880. JRB was my gg grandfather and oddly enough I know much more about some of my earliest ancestors than I know about him. He moved around quite a bit from KY to MO to IN and finally to TX. Family tradition holds that he was a law officer in or near Mount Pleasant and was killed by a gambler. He was born 1852 in KY. He was in Iron Co., Mo in the 1880 census. Family tradition also holds that he is buried somewhere near Mount Pleasant but I have no idea which cemetery or if this is accurate. He might have gone by the name Robert GEE as he is listed in 1880 MO census as Robert J. GEE. He is listed in that census as having wife Esther, dau. Alice, dau. Ella, son John B. Esther was likely carrying his last son Harry at that time. Esther left him somtime after 1880 taking the two daughters with her. I have idea of her whereabouts after this.

QRYTEXT: I'm looking for information on my great-great Uncle's family. His name was Fontanell P. Brown and he moved his family to Mt. Pleasant in the late 1800's. His children were Gus (1874), Jesse (1876), James (1871), Angeline (1872), Ann J. (1869) and Marcia L. (1879). I believe they were born in DeKalb Co, Alabama. Fontanell and his wife (Della aka Dolly) later moved to the Indian Territories since Fontanell was 1/2 Cherokee.
