Rebecca Rhodes Goff died March 11,1927

REPLY:

Mrs. Rebecca GOFF, d. 3-11-1927, interred 3-12-1927, buried Block 3 Lot 31 Space 3. In a column used for last residence or place of death is "Stop Oakwood." I beleive this refers to a stop on the Interurban railroad line.

Look-Up Request: Thank you for checking. Guess I should have ask you to check the other cemeteries too. I ask about Oakwood because my g-grandmother and two of my mother's younger siblings are buried there. In the other cemeteries that you have access to are there any GRABER burials?  Thank you.

REPLY:

I just have the one cemetery book to do look-ups from. Oakwood, Old Trinity and Calvary Cemeteries are all contained in this book. The three cemeteries are encompassed within a single fence and the name Oakwood has been used to represent them all. I have edited my 1st reply to reflect that GRABER was not found in the Oakwood complex.

Who are the three people you mention? If I find them, I can see who is buried nearby. The burials are recorded in order of their locations.

Look-Up Request: Are there are GRABER burials in Oakwood Cemetery? In particular children? My grandmother's maiden name was GRABER . About 1905 her mother gave birth to twins who later died in infancy. They were buried together in the same coffin. There may have been other GRABER children too.

Thank you.

REPLY:

There are no GRABER's recorded in the Oakwood Cemetery book.

Look-Up Request: Thank you very much for your help with my ggrandparents. I've been to that cemetery several times but cannot locate a marker, so apparently it has crumbled with time. But I'll look thru the book you recommended ASAP.

Now, please, one more query, this time in Oakwood. My Uncle Isaac Warren Smith, Jr. married a young lady appx 1923 when he was sixteen years old. She died after one year of marriage of a brain tumor. Her name was Mary Hurt (or Hunt) Smith. Do you have a record of her burial and location?? Thank you for your help and your interest. --- Mary Marino

REPLY:

The DAR copied Oakgrove Cemetery in the 50's so there is a good chance that their inventory includes stones that no longer exist.

I found one name for you that fits from Oakwood, but the dates don't work:

SMITH, Mary L. Hunt, b. 1908, d. 1-26-1930, interred 1-27-1930, buried Block 54 Space 343, resided Fort Worth.

-Rob

FOLLOW UP RESPONSE:
Just to let you know that the Mary Hunt Smith you told me about a few days ago is, in fact, my Uncle I. W's first wife. I found them listed together in the Fort Worth City Directory until 1929. Apparently the tale of their marriage being only for one year was wrong. It lasted for seven years. Thank you for your help. That laid to rest a very old and intriguing mystery.

Look-Up Request: I know that my 3rd gr. grandmother is buried at Oakwood Cemetery, but I don't know where her grave is located. I would like to visit but I need to know where to look. Her name was Julia Downey Turner. Thank you, Jana

REPLY:

Mrs. Julia A. TURNER 1846-1927 is buried in Block 41 Lot 19 Space 3. Is this the right person?

It would be best to visit during office hours so that they can show you the grave on a map. They are open M-F 7:00-3:00pm (817) 624-3531. The gates are open daily until dusk.

If you need to visit during the weekend, drop by the Central Library and look up the map in the Oakwood book.

Look-Up Request: One more lookup please. The Mrs. H. O. Snow who was buried in Sept. 1887 had two known children: Samuel Conklin and Mack Conklin, both born in the late 1870's and alive in 1880. Neither appears in the 1900 census. Are they also in Oakwood, or any other Conklins born in the early 1880's? Thanks again.

REPLY:

I found only two by that surname:

CONKLIN (given name not recorded), age 5, female, interred 4-8-1882, buried Block 1 Lot 40 Space 5, died of Typhoid Fever.

Ella CONKLIN, interred 5-4-1902, buried Block 43 or 44 Space 127. Records conflict as to which block she is buried.

Look-Up Request: I am trying to find information for my paternal great-grandmother, who for a time lived in Fort Worth, Texas. I am told that she was born somewhere in the Caribbean. Her maiden name was BARNES. The only spouse that I know of was a Mr. ADAMS (I don't know his first name). I beleive that she changed her last name to Adams once they married (in Fort Worth, Texas--almost certain). She died somewhere in Los Angeles, California four weeks prior to 31 AUG 1953. I don't know where she is buried. Mr. Adams and Ms. Barnes had two children together (listed below):

CHILD #1 (male)
Name: Wilburn Adams (no middle name, may have been a JR.)
DOB: 30 NOV 1912
Place of Birth: Texas (Fort Worth--almost certain)
Mother's Maiden name: BARNES
DOD: 05 FEB 1989
Place of Death: Los Angeles, California

Child #2 (female)
Pauline Adams (no middle name)
DOB: unknown
Place of Birth: Texas (Fort Worth--almost certain)
DOD: still living

Thank you for your attention to this request! It is greatly appreciated!

REPLY:

There is no Wilburn Adams recorded at Oakwood nor any female by the name of Adams or Barnes who died in 1953.

REPLY:

I found C. SMITH in Oakwood, a male who d. 16 Aug. 1917 and buried the next day in Block 63. The space number is not given. I have heard rumors that the caretaker may have been on a liquid diet in that era. There is no record of M.M. Smith or William L. Bishop. Out of 22,000 burials, there are 319 Smith's in Oakwood.

Look-Up Request: I'm looking for the burial site of my Great-Grandmother Ella Furman Huff. She passed away in November of 1920. I believe my Grandfather said she was buried in a cemetary that had "Oak" in its name, but no one is sure. Thank you for your time and services, they're greatly appreciated.

REPLY:

I didn't find Ella, but I found her son, Furman B. HUFF, b. 12/16/1904, d. 7/12/1908, buried Block 6 Lot 42 Space 6. His stone is inscribed with "Son of S.B. & Ella F. HUFF."

Just because I did not find Ella does not mean that she is not buried there. There are many burials that were not recorded properly.

Other HUFF's buried there are; Infant of A.J., C.S. age 4m, Jessie O. age 6m and Jessie age 3. These 5 HUFF burials are just scattered across Oakwood
