Look-Up Request: Recently the Museum was given a group of pictures from the family of Thomas Stewart and wife Rosa Daley Stewart. They had two known children, Thomas,Jr., and Ledelle who married L. S. Forester in Denton County. According to the Denton City Death Records, Mrs. Rosa Stewart died in 1947 and her body was sent to Fort Worth for burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Thomas Stewart died in 1907 and would assume that he is also buried in Oakwood. Please check your records for these two burials (and any other Stewarts buried in Oakwood).

The only other information from the book is: The child was only one day old and was interred 8-6-1888. The cemetery may have additional info, such as who purchased the grave, but it is unlikely. Records from that era were sparse, especially for infants. Their phone is 817-624-3531.

Look-Up Request: Looking for the gravesite and tombstone inscription for Civil War veteran James Morrison (1835 - May 26, 1899) who served with Company G, 41st Pennsylvania Infantry (12th Pa Reserves). His wife was Matilda Hutchinson; the only child I know about is son William (b. July 7, 1870). The family moved from Harrisburg to Fort Worth @1870 or shortly thereafter. I do not know in which cemetery James Morrison is buried. Thanks for being online.

I may have found him.

MORRISON, James, b. 1838, d. 1899, interred 5-20-1899, buried Block 52 Lot 46 Space 4.

buried in the same Lot is:

MORRISON, Lillie, interred 12-10-1905.

James has a stone but Lillie does not. The records don't even show which space she is buried in. There may be 4 empty spaces in this lot or unrecorded burials.

This is a S.P. Morrison buried in Pioneers Rest who is a Confederate Veteran. May be a connection here. Have you done a seach on our website?

Look-Up Request: Rob: I was just wondering on this W.H. and Sarah Ellen Davis tombstone info. that you sent me, if you have any suggestions of where I could write for an obituary. Of course I would have to find out if 1904 or 1905 was the correct death date first. I did try to call the Vickie you suggested at Oakwood today but noone answered the phone. The message said they were open from 7-3 and I called at 12:30 here so they should still have been open even with the time difference, but I will try again tomorrow. They only had the one daughter Sarah Elizabeth Davis who married N.H. Lasseter. Is there a Sarah E. Lasseter or an N.H. Lasseter listed in the Oakwood Cemetery? I don't have what the initials N.H. stand for. Do you have the address of the local library in Ft. Worth that might have genealogical information? Thanks for being so prompt and so helpful. Thanks so much Joy Shreyer

The LASSITER's are on the adjacent lot to the DAVIS's.

LASSITER, Sarah Elizabeth "Bettie", female age 95, b. 1869, d. 1-9-1965, interred 1-13-1965, buried Block 28 in the east 1/2 of Lot 13 Space 2, resided El Paso, TX.

LASSITER, Newton Hance, b. 1860, d. 1954, interred 11-27-1954, buried Block 28 in the east 1/2 of Lot 13 Space 3.

LASSITER, Eliza Boswell, female, b. 1840, d. 4-16-1916, buried Block 28 in the east 1/2 of Lot 13 Space 4.

No other burials are recorded in this lot. All five of these graves (Davis & Lassiter) have individual headstones.

Vicki was probably helping someone outside of the office when you called. She is the only person working in the office, so when she's busy you get the machine.

Contact info for the library is on Page 1 of our website. That's where I recommend you go for obits.

DAVIS, W. H., b., 9-13-1820, d. 2-13-1905, interred 2-14-1904, buried Block 28 in the west 1/2 of Lot 13 between spaces 3 & 4 in center of the lot. [If memory serves, the records books showed interrment in 1904 while the headstone shows death in 1905. That was nine years ago.]

DAVIS, Sarah Ellen Peyton, b. 1830, d. 4-13-1920, interred 1920, buried Block 28, in the west 1/2 of Lot 13 Space 5, resided 1008 Pennsylvania.

The records don't show anyone else buried in this six space lot. The remaining spaces could be unused or could have unrecorded burials. If you call Vickie at Oakwood 817-624-3531, she might be able to tell you who the legal owner of the Lot is.

Look-Up Request: Camilla Barnes Reynolds 1904-1999 Fort Worth, Texas

I am trying to locate her obituary. She lived in downtown Forth Worth since the early 1930's. She was married to Banks Reynolds and I do not think they had any children. I think her house was eventually surrounded by office buildings but she continued to live there. In her later years, around 1996, she may have moved to the Houston area and may have died there. I think her father was William Oscar Barnes but I do not know her mother. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You Tom Sims
