Tarrant County Courthouse - The State of Texas did not begin requiring death records until 1903.  Some early records may not exist because it was several years before there was full compliance with this new law. Only records of individuals who died outside the city limits of Fort Worth are kept at the courthouse.

The Department of Public Health keeps death records on individuals who died inside the city limits of communities with a population of 2400 or more.

The Social Security Death Index can be accessed on FamilySearch.com

You can get a photostatic copy of a Texas Death Certificate issued prior to ca 1970 for a small fee from the Dallas Public Library (downtown) or the central library in Houston. Check with your local library to see if they have this microfilm. Some certificates are not very helpful, but others have provided a wealth of information.
