                Dorothy Toomey Maxwell, 88, died Tues., Oct 21, 1989 at a Fort Worth hospital. Services were held at 11 a.m., Fri., Nov. 3, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Kent Marrs officiating. Burial was in Breckenridge Cemetery, directed by Melton Funeral Home.
                Born Dorothy Sarah Toomey, July 2, 1901, in Dallas, she married Earnest Maxwell on June 23, 1929, in Dallas. He died July 10, 1979.
                She was educated in the Dallas public schools and received a B.A. Degree in mathematics from Southern Methodist University with a teachers certificate. She later received a Master’s Degree in education from Hardin Simmons University. She moved to Breckenridge in 1926 where she taught school for 26 years. She moved to Fort Worth in 1986. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Morning Wesley Bible class, Breckenridge Woman’s Forum, Woman’s Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Retired Teachers Association.
                Survivors include a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Mayer of Fort Worth; a son, Ernest Prescott Maxwell of Concord, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Toomey Tomkins and Anna Prescott Toomey, both of Dallas; a brother, Eugene James Toomey of Dallas; five grandchildren, Sandra Kay Hope and Pamela Prescott Maxwell, both of Sacramento, Calif., James Scott Mayer of Taylor, Clifford Kyle Mayer and Michael Prescott Mayer, both of Ft. Worth; and six great-grandchildren, Matthew Kyle Mayer, Sara Elizabeth Mayer, and Laura Anne Mayer, all of Fort Worth, Katherine Diane Mayer and James Daniel Mayer of Taylor, and Victoria Marie Hope of Sacramento, Calif.
                Pallbearers were James Scott Mayer, Clifford Kyle Mayer, Michael Prescott Mayer, Robert N. Maxwell, Charles Gilbert and Rev. Henry C. Mayer.
                Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church and may be left at the funeral home.
