J W Horton

J.W. Horton, 66, for six years Stephens County
Commissioner, died at the hospital. He had been ill for several months and his
case was serious. He was a prominent farmer and Stephens county citizen since
1910. His farm is north of Ivan.
Mr. Horton was in the race for Stephens County Commissioner in 1930, opposing
I.E. Kirkland for precinct no. 3. He was defeated for the county office in the
last general election.
Services were held at the First Baptist Church in Breckenridge with the mayor of
Breckenridge, A.J. Morgan in charge of the services.
Survived by his wife; three children - W.F. Horton of Ivan, J.F. Horton of Eden
and Mrs. Fred Allen of Eliasville.
Pallbearers were County Commissioners who served with Mr. Horton. Joe Beaty,
Frank Sloan, Boss Hood, H.B. Downing, John Caraway and W.I. Hunt.
