Garland R. Carey

                Garland R. Carey, 75, died at 5:48 p.m. Wednesday in Humana Hospital in Abilene following a brief illness.

                Services were at 2:30 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Porter, pastor of the church officiating.

                Burial was in Breckenridge Cemetery directed by Melton Funeral Home.

                Born Jan. 22, 1911, in the Wayland Community, he married Eva Marten Aug. 5, 1949 in Lamesa.

                He had been a Stephens County resident all of his life, was a Breckenridge business man, a Baptist, veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army, and a past member of the Rotary and the Lions Clubs of Breckenridge.

                Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Sheila Carey Boswell of Austin and Caroline Marten Wynn of Houston; one sister, Ardell (Mrs. Ed) Ogle of Abilene; one brother, Vanno Carey of Possum Kingdom; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

                Pallbearers were Carey Boswell, Sam (Scott) Wynn, Grant Wynn, Dick Carey, Johnny Ogle, Rex Carey and Kent Carey.

                The family suggests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church or a favorite charity and may be left at Melton Funeral Home.
