Mrs. Sid (Ruth) Bowers, age 99, of Abilene, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 1995, at Mesa
Springs Nursing Center.
Services and final committal were 3 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26, 1995, at the First
Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, in Terrell, with Rev. James Tidenberg
officiating. Burial was in Oakland Memorial Park. The services were under the
direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home in Abilene.
Bowers was born Jan. 28, 1895, in Terrell, the daughter of Walter C. and Bessie
Crumbaugh Porter. She grew up and attended school in Terrell. She attended Mary
Hardin Baylor Academy, and in 1921 she graduated from Baylor University School
of Nursing.
On Dec. 8m 1926, she married Sidney F. Bowers, in Fort Worth. He preceded her in
death in 1982. She lived in Breckenridge from 1937 until 1982 when she moved to
Abilene. Bowers was a homemaker and a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Beth (Mrs. Neal) McLeskey, of Abilene; a
daughter-in-law, Bonnie Frasier bowers, of Dallas; one brother, Bill Porter, of
Terrell; two sisters, Mrs. Leroy Jennings, of Abilene, and Mrs. Homer Nelson, of
Waco; six grandchildren; and, five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Sidney E. Bowers; and five
brothers, John C. Porter, Harry A. Porter, J.W. Porter, Charles M. Porter, and
Tom P. Porter.
