BEAUMONT ENTERPRISE (Texas): Monday, March 5, 1984

Dorris Yancey, Sr. ..... retired rancher Dorris C. Yancey, Sr. 95, of Beaumont died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospital after an illness. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Kelley-Hixson Funeral Home with a graveside service at 4:30 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper. A native of Keener, Ala., and a resident of Brookeland 40 years, he lived in Spurger 20 years before coming to Hamilton Nursing Home four years ago and was a retired rancher. Survivors include two daughters, Annie Laura Lakey of Vidor and Marguerite Turner of Houston; four sons, D.C. Yancey Jr. and Clyde W. Yancey, both of Beaumont, Robert E. Yancey of Groves and Joe C. Yancey of Port Neches; a sister, Edwardean Caldwell of Port Neches; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Dorris Clifford YANCEY, Sr. was born 24 JUL 1888. He was the son of William Edward YANCEY & Laura ("Lollie") Amelia Frances GRIFFITH. He was 1/m in AL to Bell GREEN. He married Maggie HORN on 30 Jan 1915 at Barbers Hill, Chambers Co., TX. BYD

MAGGIE HORN YANCEY

Funeral services for Mrs. Maggie Horn Yancey, 80, of Spurger, Tex. will be a 2 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church in Spurger. She died at 8:30a.m. Sunday in Baptist Hospital in Beaumont after a short illness. She made her home in Brooklyn (Brookeland), Tex. for 41 years and was a member of the Brooklyn (Brookeland) Missionary Baptist Church. She was a native of Spurger and had made her home there for the past 15 years. She was a precious Mother and a dear wife. Mr. and Mrs. Yancey celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on Jan. 30th of this year. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, Tex. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Survivors include her husband, D. C. Yancey, Sr. of Spurger; four sons, R. E. Yancey of Groves, D.C. Yancey, Jr. and Clyde W. Yancey, both of Beaumont and Joe Carter Yancey of Port Neches; two daughters, Mrs. Annie Laura Lakey of Vidor and Mrs. Marguerite Turner of Houston, one sister, Mrs. Myrtie Raschke of Baytown; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. The Rev. Kirkland will officiate.

Maggie HORN YANCEY was born 28 Jan 1897 in Tyler Co., Texas; daughter of William Henry HORN & Johnnie Ann COLLIER. She died 10 Apr 1977.
