Clayton, Panola Co., TX, June 27 - The Bethel Baptist Church founded during the Republic of Texas, will celebrate ninety-three years of active service at a homecoming Saturday. The Rev. Isaac Reed, who organized the church in 1843, also organized the Old North Church near Nacogdoches, the oldest active Baptist church in Texas. After the Civil War, the Bethel church was moved a mile to its present location. The building in the photo was erected half a century ago.This caption and the photo on the bulletin were published in The Panola Watchman in 1936 celebrating the 93rd anniversary. The building was erected in 1886.

Aren't you glad someone influenced you to attend church today? Maybe it was your parents years ago that got you started attending church services.
There are too many TOO BUSY people today. The person that is too busy to take time of God's day to worship in God's house is just TOO BUSY.
This church would not be here today if some people for the past 146 years had not seen the value of church attendance. We thank God for those who have kept Bethel Baptist Church alive for 146 years.
Now start praying that God will give us more New Members today!
Remember there will not be evening services today due to the "All Day" services.

On Saturday before the 4th Lords day in September A. D. 1843
At Elder Isaac Reed's dwelling house we the members of the United Baptist order, being met together in the fear of God for the purpose of constituting the Church Bethel, and called on Elders Isaac Reed and Abner Herrin to act as Presbetary and Lemull Herrin as clerk Protem, the Church being read and approved and we whose names are undersigned were pronounced by the Presbetary the Church Bethel. We then opened the door for the reception of members. Received by letter: Elder Isaac Reed into our fellowship, received Eld. Lemull Herrin by letter into our fellowship, then concluded by prayer. List of names constitute members.
