NOTE: The tombstones at Sugar Hill Cemetery for Thomas C. Jones and Mary Ann Smalley Jones were erected ca 1950 and paid for by donations from various descendants. It is uncertain what marked their graves prior to that date and the source of their birth and death dates as shown on the tombstones. Records in the District Clerk's Office in Panola County TX show that October 1861 Thomas Jones was allowed to give written answers in a civil suit because he had already enlisted in the C.S.A. and would soon be out of the county. No Civil War record has yet been located for him.
