This family was not shown on the 1850 Census of Panola Co
The 1860 Census shows Charles and Nancy with nine children: William 18, Martha 16, Thomas 14, Francis 12, Sarah
10, Mary 8, Eliza 6, Parthenia 3 and Nancy 1.
The 1870 Census shows Charles and Nancy with three children: Eliza 15, Parthena 12 and Anne 8. So Anne made the
10th child and Nancy, born ca 1859, had died.
The 1880 Census did not have Charles and Nancy listed, so they must have either died or moved elsewhere.
The Index to Marriage Records of Panola Co TX 1846 - 1912 shows a marriage between J.M. Smith and M.P. Hill on 26
Mar 1876, recorded in Vol D, page 135 of the Marriage Records. This couple did not appear on the 1880 Census.
There is a marked grave for Parthenia Smith 10 Oct 1856 - 09 Feb 1936 in the Cool Spring Cemetery just across the
state line in DeSoto Parish LA. The date of birth for this individual would coincide with that of the Parthenia listed
with her parents Charles and Nancy. Perhaps all of the family had moved over toward Logansport LA.
