There are now in the male Department forty eight students. which is an increase of eight over the number of last session. With regard to the mental progress of the young men, I have to report what has been said so often before in similar reports--that while many are evidently working diligently and consequently improving rapidly there are unfortunately too many that are careless and show little interest in acquiring an education. The Faculty have adopted the plan of sending to the Parents or guardians semi-monthly reports upon the Deportment, Scholarship, and Attendance of the young men, Which they hope result in good. I require the students under my immediate charge, to de-claim regularly. The Board will be pleased to learn that a Debating Society under the control of the President of the University has been organized by the students. The first regular meeting and debate took place last evening- November 9- in the College building. There will be meetings of the Society every Friday evening throughout the sessions.
