Biographies of Nacogdoches County, Texas ResidentsFrom The Orange Daily Tribune, May 10, 1904 Hayward Mill Article Fatal Accident One Man Dead and Another Fatallky Hurt at Hayward Mill. A terrible accident occurred at the Hayward Mill just just [sic] before noon today in which one man lost his life and another received injuries from which he now lies at the point of death. The dead man is Mr. J. C. Dickerson, who now lies in cold clay at his home on South Fredonia street. The other is Mr. Pipkin, who recently came here from Louisiana. Both are carpenters and were working on the immense buildings now going up for the big Hayward mill plant. The accident occurred while hoisting up a piece of timber, which fell back upon the men, crushing Dickerson's skull and breaking Pipkin's leg and mashing in his collar bone. Dickerson died in a few minutes after the accident. The unfortunate occurrence has cast a gloom over the community and universal sympathy goes out to the distressed families of the victims. -- Nacogdoches Sentinel |
