Cove
Springs Cemetery is east of Melrose off TX 21 on the Black Jack
Melrose Road. From Loop 224 travel 9.5 miles east on TX 21. Turn
north (left) onto CR 350 (Black Jack Melrose Road) and travel
2.9 miles where the cemetery
will be on the right.
It was once a Methodist Church and they
sold it to a Mr. Vail. Billie Wingate's grandfather Tom Bentley
and Mr. McKnight rode a horse and drove a buggy for days to
collect enough money to pay Mr. Vail back what he paid for the
building. It then became a community church and meeting place.
Several years ago Elizabeth Trimble and others got a historical
marker and they meet bi-yearly. Donations may be made at
Commercial National Bank in Nacogdoches, Texas for upkeep of the
cemetery.
It is a well kept cemetery. Standing on the hill you can
"almost" hear the Old Time Revivals once held there.
Tom and Measie Lambert Bentley are the grandparents of Billie
Wingate. They raised their children in this church:
