Miller, Eunice Taylor
  1921-2009
Eunice Taylor Miller, 88, of Hillsboro, died March 6 at Hill Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held March 9 at Bellmead Funeral Home. Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery. Eunice was born to Charlie and Arrilla Carver Taylor on March 2, 1921, in Knox County. At the age of 2, her family moved to San Saba County. She graduated from San Saba High School in 1938. Her mother died in 1933 and afterward she spent summers and vacations in Knox County with her Carver relatives whom she loved dearly. In 1939, she moved to Abilene, attended Draughons Business College and began work for an oil refining and drilling company from 1940 to 1945. While in Abilene, she met Horace "Pat" Miller from Belton. He was called into military service in 1942 and was overseas until late 1944. The U.S. Air Force stationed him in Oakland Calif. and they were married in Berkley, Calif. on April 29, 1945. During the World War II years, she worked and resided in Abilene. She became a Red Cross volunteer nurse's aide and worked nights and weekends at Hendricks Hospital until April 1945. They became a U.S. Air Force family and enjoyed a happy life moving from place to place, having many Air Force friends. This life brought them from Biloxi, Miss. to Connally Air Force Base in Waco in August of 1951. They resided in Bellmead where their two children attended La Vega schools, and the family was active in all school activities, Boy Scouts, Little League, and all youth activities of the Northside Church of Christ, formerly La Vega Church of Christ. In 1956, Eunice began work for the law firm of Naman, Howell, and Smith. When she began working, there were six lawyers and four non-lawyers. When she retired from the firm after 35 years, they had moved two times to larger quarters and employed some 40 to 45 lawyers and 50 to 60 non-lawyers. Growth of the firm helped her develop many friends and coworkers. She was active in local and state legal organizations and published several articles on legal training procedures. She always gave credit to attorneys Cullen Smith and Albert Witcher for teaching her how to accomplish and love the legal work in a law office. She is survived by a stepbrother, Bill Johnson of McAllen; one son, Charles T.
