Hayes Cemetery
Snow HillHayes cemetery is located northwest of Daingerfield in the Snow Hill Community. From Daingerfield take Highway 49 west for 6.1 miles and turn right (north) on FM 144. At .8 mile is a cemetery sign pointing to the left of the road. The side is about .5 miles at the end of a lane into the woods. There are three cattle gates at the road and along the way to be opened and closed. Take care to close each gate.
At one time this was the location of Bethel Baptist Church which later located to nearby Snow Hill. The Snow Hill Cemetery Association now cares for the cemetery.
Hayes Cemetery was read by John P Frazier on December 10, 1985. This information was updated on Dec 2, 1998 by Melba Tims, Kathryn McAlexander, Irene Powell, Connie Draper, John Livingston, Gerald Hammock and Charles Steger. This cemetery is known to be both black and white.
The oldest known marked grave is Row 3 HAYES, Mildred HESTER (27 Mar 1798-27 Jul 1856).
