Joseph T. Beasley (1 Oct 1849-13 Oct 1915)

Beasly, one of the leading merchants of Omaha, Morris County, Texas, is a native of Georgia, born October 1, 1849, a son of John and grandson of Joseph Beasly, native also of Georgia. John Beasly married, in 1848, Mary, daughter of Edmond Wright, of North Carolina, and about 1850 they moved to Alabama, and thence in 1856 to Texas, settling in Bowie County, where Mr. Beasly died, leaving a widow and five children--Joseph E., Martha, William, Carnes R. and John S.
Joseph T. Beasly remained with his mother until manhood. He began farming when a young man and has been successful, now owning 450 acres of good land, 100 acres being under cultivation. In 1883 Mr. Beasly embarked in the general mercantile business at Omaha, in partnership with a Mr. Witt, the firm name being Beasly & Witt. They carry a good stock and have built up a large trade, both being men of ability, and accomodating and fair dealers. Mr. Beasly was married November 24, 1870, to Miss Asentha Hayes, daughter of William Hayes, of Tennessee, and they have had four children-- Andrew J., James P., Ullman and John B. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity.

Mr. Joseph T. Beasley died October 13, 1915 and is buried in the Omaha Cemetery beside his wife, Asentha who was born February 3, 1892 and died February 12, 1923.) (D Row 25
