The old Corn Creek School

Stephen Taylor and his wife photographed this abandoned schoolhouse in April of 2007. It is in Eastern McCulloch County below Placid; at the intersection of CR 462 and CR 464 next to a telephone cell tower.

From McCulloch County History, Vol. I, pg 105-106:

“Corn Creek, District Thirty-one, was established by the court in 1909 upon the petition of O. L. Cottle and others.  So closely did this school community cooperate that not one dissenting vote was cast on the school measure until in 1930 when the vote to consolidate with Rochelle was 14 to 3 for the consolidation.  Corn Creek bought the first school bus ever operated in McCulloch County to transport its pupils to Rochelle.  Their teacher, Lula Bruce, who also drove the bus, made a remarkable school bus record for promptness and regularity.”
