21 Head of Horses Found Dead near Oakville

The following is a transcription of a February 8, 1876, Galveston newspaper article:

"LIVE OAK COUNTY"

"Twenty-one head of horses were found dead near together on the prairie, near Oakville, in Live Oak county, a short time since.  it was at first thought the horses had died of some disease, but on examination it was ascertained that they had been shot.  Nearly all of them belonged to Mr. Floyd Powell, a quiet, peaceable gentleman, who did not suppose he had an enemy anywhere."
