Death of Capt. Baker

Letter dated Gila City, New Mexico, 30 Oct 1859, and written by B. F. Neal to a gentleman residing in Live Oak County.  On Capt. Baker, who died last summer, having poisoned himself.  Capt. Baker discovered, as he thought, a root resembling a turnip or potato, which he said was good to eat.  He ate of the root.  Shortly afterwards, he was taken suddenly ill, as also were his companions, he died in a few hours.
