Mary Jane "Maude" (Powell) Powell:
"The Democrat-Voice", Friday, April 29, 1921, pg. #5. "In Memory, Mrs. I. M.
Powell. Mrs. I. M. Powell was born February 12, 1848 in Memphis, Tennessee, died
in Coleman, Texas April 13, 1921 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. A. Jones
with whom she was living. The remains were conveyed to Normangee, Texas for
interment beside her husband. Funeral services were conducted by Bro. Scroggin.
She Was married to Mr. I. M. Powell on May 13, 1874, they being members of the
Missionary Baptist Church and each living a true Christian and unselfish life to
each other and to God. Eight children were born to them, only two of whom
survive, viz: Mrs. W. I. Powell of Marquez, Texas; and Mrs. Jones of Coleman.
Death is but a path that must be trod to reach that home and our loved ones.
This life, but brief, thus unimportant, is yet a preparation for the higher and
more enduring existence in that home where death and sorrow do not come; where
the perfect existence, denied here, is promised to those who earn it in this
brief sojourn on earth. Let's strive to gain that grander home".
*Note: Husband was Isaac Marion Powell. Children: William Isaac "Will" Powell,
Rutha Elmar Powell and Maude Mae "Maudie" Powell (married Cecil Adolph Jones).
