Funeral services for Corbett Douglas "Shine" Phillips, age
79, of Marquez, Texas were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 28, 2009 at
the Clear Creek Baptist Church in rural Leon County. Bro. Ross Newton officiated
the service and interment followed in the Clear Creek Cemetery. Walters Funeral
Home in Centerville, Texas was in charge of all arrangements.
Corbett Douglas "Shine" Phillips was born on November 6, 1929 in Marquez, Texas
to Earnest Borders & Vera (Evans) Phillips. Shine served in the U.S. Army and
worked as a machinist. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed helping others as
much as he could. He would give his last dollar to help someone in need. In
fact, Shine delivered meals-on-wheels for a number of years until his health
began to fail him. Shine was a member of the Clear Creek Baptist Church and had
lived in Marquez for the last 20 years. He passed away February 23, 2009 in
Conroe, Texas. He is preceded in death by both of his parents; six brothers and
three sisters.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Ann Phillips of
Coldspring, Texas.
