Report A

Dear Brethren,
The Sunday Schools on this work have not amounted to much and will never do much until the parents wake up to the fact that the responsibility of making our Sunday Schools and our children what they ought to be falls upon them. May the Lord help us realize this with all of our hearts and then help us organize permanent Sunday Schools instead of summer resorts for our children. Brethren let us pray that God may help us to wake up on this neglected point.
Fraternally
E. C. KEITH P. C.

Report B

Dear Brethren,
We can state with out fear of being mistaken that the spiritual state of our church is improving all the time. We still feel like that our harvest will be great. The good Lord has over ruled all mistakes and blessed our efforts with gracious results from the beginning of this year. We have not had any meeting on the work yet. We hope to be able to hold meetings at every appointment. Looking forward with great expectations.
I remain as ever your pastor.
E.C. KEITH

Report C.

Dear Brethren,
As we have stated in our former report our For. Miss. has been paid in and the Dom. Miss. will be paid in but we have not attempted to collect any since our last quarter, because times have been so hard on our class of people. We feel sure that all who subscribed will pay just as soon as they get the money. If our people are where we think they are, they realize that our debt to the Lord is the first to pay and will not wait until just before the preacher starts to conference and have him running himself nearly to death trying to make his collections. The Lord help us to do our duty

Dear Brethren,
The spiritual condition of our church is very warm among those that have attended church regularly. There is a class of professed Christians that are very indifferent in this respect. They will some times attend church, if they have time, it is not too much trouble and doesn’t cost them any thing to worship God in this careless and indifferent way. These dear people always seem glad to see the preacher when he comes, treat him well and invite him back, but they do not seem to know what it is, what happiness is contained in real genuine heart felt religion. Wherever there has been a church or schoolhouse close enough, I have tried my best toward carrying the Gospel to warm their poor cold hearts with its life giving power. We can’t say whether such indifferent Christians are enjoying religion or not. As for me I know that I can’t be indifferent toward God and His work and enjoy religion. But that part of our membership that really constitutes the church and stands by the church and supports its institutions as they promised are faithful and true always respond to duty’s call and enjoy serving our God who is the giver of all good gifts. We hope and pray that something may be done or said that will bring them into real fellowship with God and the Church.

Report A.

To the P. E. and members of the first quarterly conference, convened at Rogers Prairie (Tex.), Calvert dist. Tex. Conference, Jan 25th 1899

Dear Brethren,
We have two Sunday Schools on this work, both of which are doing real good work under the circumstances. One of these schools is in a Methodist community, which makes it much easier to have a denominational school. The other has had some difficulties to encounter. Not on account of the officers of the school so much as the indifference of the parents in not encouraging the children to attend by their example. We ought to have two more good S. S. on this work and shall work to that end so far as we are able. But in order to do this we must have the cooperation of the hand that "rocks the cradle" for in the words of our S. S. editor," The hand that rules the cradle rules the world"

Report B

Dear Brethren,
There is always a faithful few that remains normal the year round, but it is sad for us to have to state that it’s not the majority, instead of a few, whose normal condition is a "conscience void of offense toward God and all man kind". The majority of our members are not as warm now as they were last summer or as you will probably find them next summer. They forget to pray, or forget to go to church or forget the vow that they took when they came into the church (God’s Kingdom). The fact is they do not live close enough to Christ, the great magnet among men, to become magnetized by Him, and the result is you will find them hopeless instead of hopeful, faithless instead of faithful and while out among men, where their lights should shine most and their characters be brighter, you find them careless instead of careful
O may we all improve
The grace already given,
To seize the crown of perfect love
And scale the mount to heaven.
Pray that we all may reach those heights of joy and attain that depth of love that is found only in Jesus
Sincerely Your Pastor
E. C. KEITH

Report C

Dear Brethren,
We have done nothing on missions this quarter but we are devising methods by which we hope to achieve glorious results, even by the second quarter. Pray that God may bless our plans in carrying on the great movement that Christ set up. When he said, "Go ye into all the world and lo I am with you always even unto the end of the world". God help us to be loyal to Christ
Sincerely Your Pastor

To the P. E. and members of the second quarterly conference Rogers Prairie Charge, Calvert Dist. Texas Conference. Gum Spring April 29th 1899

Dear Brethren,
We began last year with no Sunday School on the work. We are glad to announce that we have four now, all of which are in fine condition. The prospects for good schools in each of these places are very flattering. We instruct the children as we have opportunity.
Respectfully
E. C. KEITH P. C.

Report B.

Dear Brethren
Our churches are seemingly in fine condition spiritually. The faithful few of whom we so often speak in our reports and to whose work we have reference when we say they are in a fine condition are still pressing on toward the goal. They are not weary of well doing knowing that they shall reap in due time if they faint not. We are still carrying a great deal of dead weight that makes us feel weary when we would be mounting on eagle wings. Oh! How thankful they should be that God is slow to anger and plenteous in mercy. Brethren let us keep praying for them.
I remain Yours obediently and Fraternally

To the P. E. and members of the fourth Quarterly Con. at Rogers Prairie Tex. Oct 31st 1899

Dear Brethren,
We feel that we are safe in saying that we have gained ground along spiritual as well as all other lines this year. We have received close on to forty members into the church, Though on account of difficulty we were not able to protract meetings all over the work. Being able to conduct only two protracted meetings cut us off very materially along some lines. The best of all the Lord has been with the pastor and his people and has stood very close when the hours were dark and dreary saying "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee".
There is a class here like there is every where else, who leaves in the very thickest of the battle, when their services are needed worse. Very indifferent. We have seen them warmed up and have had them to make and have made with them very binding promises to God, but with them it didn’t last long. It does seem like that God can ever catch some people ready to die is to catch them in a protracted meeting. God help us to do better.
Fraternally,
E. C. KEITH P. C.

Dear Brethren,
We have one Sunday school at Red Land with as faithful superintendent as any school ever had and with this being the case you know that this S. S. is doing good work. I wish that we had a few more of such men in this very important work. We had other schools, but they report them selves dead for want of some one to push the enterprise.
Sincerely
Your Pastor,
E. C. KEITH P. C.

Dear Brethren,
All of our collections are over paid. We give God thanks for opening our hearts to the full discharge of our duty along these lines this year.
Truly

To the Presiding Elder and members of the first quarterly conference Rogers Prairie Circuit Calvert Dist. Texas Conference.

Brethren:
We offer the following report concerning the Epworth Leagues. The numbers and state of Sunday Schools and of the pastoral instruction of children.
We have no leagues on this circuit but plenty material at each appointment to organize leagues.
As to the number and state of S.S. We have no S.S. on this charge. We ought to have five and would if our people were loyal to God and the M. E. Church South. We all took the church vows and bound ourselves to be subject to the discipline, and the discipline says that where ten children can be collected together that we are to organize them into a S. S. There is not a preaching place on the circuit that there is not that number, and they could be organized into a S.S. if their parents would take an interest in the work.
There is in the bounds of the literary school at Rogers Prairie 15 children, at Oxford 14, at Gum Spring 24, Hennessey (?) 13, and at about 12 or 15. How members can have respect enough to stay in the church with the vows of the church on them is a mystery that they alone can solve. This neglect may not lay entirely at the door of parents but the neglect is some where brethren. Lets correct this mistake at once, and look after our children, for it will not be long before the church will fall on their shoulders, and if they are neglected, oh! How unprepared they will be for this work.
As to the pastoral instruction of children, I have not done much. Have talked to some of the children and prayed for them at the family altar.

Brethren,
We offer the following report on the general state of the church. It can only be said of the general state of the church that it is hopeful.
There is not a prayer meeting on the charge run by our members. I have not been able to find but two family alters. Our congregations have been reasonably good and very attentive. I believe that with Christians, that the church will at once take on new strength and her condition will change at once for the better. May the good Master speed the time when it will be so. To the Presiding Elder and members of the second quarterly conference, Rogers Prairie Circuit, Calvert Dist. Texas Conference.

Dear Brethren,
We your pastor submit the following report concerning the number and state of Epworth Leagues, the number and state of S.S. and of the pastoral instruction of children.
Concerning the number and the state of E. Lg. We have no report. We have one S. S. This school is at Gum Springs, and is in its infancy, but bids fair to do reasonably good work. We have no school at Rogers Prairie. The baptist is kind enough to take our children under their care, as we do not care to have a S.S. of our own and instruct them in the doctrine of our Holy Methodism. To be consistent we ought to join a church that we would teach its doctrines to our children. We have no school at Oxford, but I think will have soon. I know very little of the prospects of a school at High Prairie. However we will try and do what we can to organize one there.
We have preached some to the children this quarter and instructed some of them privately. There is an encouraging feature of the work. The children are very attentive, that is most of them are when I am preaching to them or instructing privately. The feature of S.S. work and of the instruction of children is more encouraging than at the time of the holding of the first quarterly con.

We have not as yet preached on the subject of missions, but have taken some collections for this cause. Our plans so far has been public collections. The state of the church is really, I think, on the up grade, and I firmly believe many are becoming more interested. Large crowds and very good attention. We are doing all we can to raise our cause to a higher standard and children are being looked after. Instructions are given from a sense of their worth. So far we are unable to arrive at any definite method as to working a plan to raise the entire membership. Many are doing better work now than before. We have paid $30.00 on parsonage improvement. Dear Brethren

After much struggling I have three schools, all in their infancy but they are in a tolerably prosperous condition. Children anxious for school and some of the parents are doing well. Officers 10, teachers 12, amt. spent for literature for Sunday schools six dollars. We are very much gratified with present prospects.

Dear Brethren,

In giving in the summary of my year’s work including the fourth quarter. I am gratified to state that we are stronger spiritually and better prepared to do service for the church and humanity. Added to blessed Zion 85, 45 by Bapt. 35 on prof., 5 by letter. Dismissed by letter 4, baptized 2 infants. Addie Lee MCBRIDE and Buna May MCBRIDE. We have done all we could to get every member to be loyal to God and the church. We are talked to the children and urged upon parents and children the great importance of S. S. work. We are still far behind so for as the real work of the church is concerned. We have added about $30.00 to parsonage. Bought an organ for our church amounting to $15.00. Other objects $5.00. $50.00 in all.

Dear Brethren

We have labored hard to get collections from first to last and I believe I will be able to report full collections but the people are a little with holding. The amt. raised at Oxford by P. E. was not collected so that puts us that much behind. This cause has had all of the attention any Pastor could give. We have done our best.
