To the P. E. and members of the fourth Qt. Conference, Greeting Dear Brethren.

We are glad we can report two Sunday schools on our charge, in good shape. One at Union Church the other here at Rogers Prairie. As for the pastoral instruction of the children, I have visited from house to and talked to the children about Christ. Some of them seem to have heard of Him and others don’t know any thing about Christ. Brethren the hope of our Churches are dependent upon our children. So let us give them the proper training by teaching them the fear of the Lord.
Yours Respectfully

To the P. E. and members of the first qt. conference Rogers Prairie Charge, Calvert District, Texas Conf. Feb. 25th, 1896, Dear Brethren we have no league. A report on the number and state of the Sunday schools will be simply a joke if not indeed a perfect farce, as we have no school on the work. I know of no community on the charge that could not have a live Sunday school if Methodist parents would make the right effort. We have made no special effort toward a Sunday school in any place but have simply asked the people if the matter was not of sufficient importance to claim their attention and immediate action
Children that are not instructed in the home and in the Sunday school cannot be very well reached by pastoral instruction. Although my attention is directed toward the children both in public and private. Many children attend preaching and seem better behaved many of their seniors. Some of our Methodist parents neglect the baptism of their children, which can only be considered a bad omen anywhere. Early dedication and early training brings our children to a knowledge of Jesus and gives them an appreciation of sacred things. I long to see the day when more stress will be laid on early training of children, as it was in days of Moses. Love to parents and supreme love to God should be the first impression make on a child's young mind.
Respectfully
J. L. YEATS P. C.

Dear Brethren, not having had time on the circuit nor opportunity since I came to the work of visiting the membership very extensively, I am not able to give an accurate report concerning "the general state of the church", but cannot see how our spiritual life can be manifested to the world except by our works, and as such a few seem to be working on the line of church advancement, we are forced to report the charge is a very bad state. No Sunday school and no prayer meetings on the circuit. And if this is not enough to convince the most skeptical that we are in a bad condition then I fail to rightly understand the surrounding.
Something ought to be done. We can do something. Will we do it? We received seven by certificate the present quarter viz. N. ELLIOTT, R. E. ELLIOTT, Annie May ELLIOTT, Mrs. J. E. ELLIOTT, Rosie P. YEATS, and Ira FLOYD and wife Pauline. Dismissed by certificate eleven, viz; J. C. TURNER and wife, W. L. BLAIR and wife Annie and William TURNER, Grimella TURNER, Rev A. M. EUBANK and wife, William and Ellen EUBANK. Net decrease of four. May we see great things ere the close of the year.

Supplement "A"

To the P. E. and members of the second quarterly conference, Rogers Prairie Circuit, Calvert District, Texas Conference.

Gum Springs May 16th 1896

Dear brethren we have no league. We report one Sunday school fairly attended by the people of the church & community. We ought to have at least four Sunday schools in the charge. Even the little children tell me they want a S. S. and if their parents were as much interested in them as they should be they would go to the S. school and take their little ones with them and teach them the word of God instead of learning the Sabbath breakers games. Oh. For a general reform on this line. A Sabbath reform, Oh for the spirit of Nehemiah to stir the hearts of the people of our country and his mantle to fall on our shoulder. It is to be hoped that every congregation of Methodist will observe the disciplinary instruction in regard to Sunday schools. We instruct the children in public and private.

Supplement "B"

To the P. E. and members of the second quarterly conference, Rogers Prairie Circuit, Calvert District, Texas Conference, Gum Springs, May 16th 1896,

Dear Brethren:
The state of the charge is not good spiritually. We have a clever kind people in the main but not any too religious. But few comparatively pray in public and a still smaller number pray in their families only one weekly.
Prayer meetings on the work taking sickness in the preacher’s family in account we might report quite a number of the members visited. The number of visits not kept. This preacher would feel quite a load lifted from his heart if many of the members who do not come to church would fall into line, as they will have to do "when the roll is called up yonder".
As a rule, but with its exceptions our members are at peace among themselves, but we are sure it were better if it were not such a graveyard peace. None have died, moved off or been received during the present quarter. We have had no revival this year but our preaching has been on practical lines and as death does not wait till summer to do his work I can not wait till then to cry aloud and try to show duty to my people. May the blessings of God rest on the work and his spirit sit all to the performances of the vows we have made.

Supplement "C"

To the P. E. and members of the second quarterly conference, Rogers Prairie Circuit, Calvert District, Texas Conference, Gum Springs, May 16th 1896,

Dear Brethren: We find such scarcity of money in our circuit at this time that collections on missions is at present almost impossibility. In the early part of the year the weather was so very inclement till travel and visiting were almost impossible so that we are yet to collect from the dear people their missionary monies. We are in hopes of good collections on all lines this year. We need as Methodist, more of the missionary spirit. Freely we have received, may we all freely give.

Supplement "D"

To the P. E. and members of the second quarterly conference, Rogers Prairie Circuit, Calvert District, Texas Conference, Gum Springs, May 16th 1896,

Dear Brethren: On our educational collections, we have done nothing yet. Education, it may be truly said makes the person a Christian Education in this Christian land should be non chsafed to the rising generation. If ignorance be the mothers of superstition, surely a Christian education must be the fastener of all noble principals. In giving our children an education especially a Christian education we lay the foundation upon which to build character, which is of more value than gold. We advise that our church as for as possible patronize our church schools. Then our children will be taught not only the things that make up the literary but the spiritual being. I trust that our educational collection may be paid in full

Our general state is some better spiritually than at our last report. We have two additional prayer meetings on the work, making three on the circuit. Some of our members have received some spiritual uplift and are living closer to duty and to God. Baptized one adult, Bro. Lenard BRITT. Received three into the church by ritual Bro. BRITT and Bro. BROWN and wife. Two members, Bro. MOORE and wife have quit our communion and joined the Baptist without giving any notice to the church or pastor. We shall follow instructions given in our manual of discipline in such cases of disregard of church obligations.

Dear Brethren: We have had two S. S. part of the year and perhaps both are even alive now, but barely so. It has been a work too great for us to get our people enlisted in S. S. work this year.
True, many are derelict in this matter more or less every where we have been but truly none more so than on this circuit. Little children are asking their parents when will there be S. S. organized so they can go. Since the days of Robt Raikes 1781, the great blessing and success of S. S. work has been very manifest and the saving influence felt in the world. Since the introduction of S. S. into these U. S. in 1816 the Methodist Church alone in twenty three years reported one half million converts from this source. Shall not these encouraging facts stimulate us to a higher appreciation of this blessed institution of the church of God and prompt us to action in this work? God grant that it may. Early instruction of children insure them against many or the vices commonly practiced & especially against Sabbath desecration. We endeavor to instruct our children along all these lines- and alas! Find the same instructions we give the children very applicable to some of our adults. May we see many changes for better along all the lines for which we devoutly pray.

Our general state is perhaps improved from what it was at last report. The summer meetings resulted in spiritual growth to some of our members and some today are nearer to duty and to God than before. This is indeed encouraging. The prayer meeting at this place has taken on more or less new life and our women have an interesting & profitable prayer meeting every week. Pleasing reports are made of this meeting and many of the women of the churches of the community are receiving strength and encouragement from attending it. This we consider a work of great importance. Oh how badly the church needs such praying women as helped St. Paul laboring with him in the gospel. Yet some women (& men) discourage women in this matter, laying stress on the apostles words. Let the women keep silent in the churches, which is perhaps little understood by many who thus oppose their good work. Again we have to report an irregularity, which is commonly practiced among us, to wit leaving our communion without notice to the church authorities. Men join the church by their voluntary act and when once a member their names are enrolled & they are publicly declared members of the church and to quit our communion without due notice to the pastor or church authorities is an irregularity deserving record so says our manual of discipline P.76. Sister G. T. CRAIG has so renounced our communion and gone to the Campbellites. We have received this present qtr. nine by assumption of the vows of the church & two by certificate. Received by vows: Bertha MCMILLIN, Willie LENARD, Emma CHENEY, sister G. L. ANDRESS, Sister J. C. BEARD, Elisha W. WILLIAMS, Edna CROUCH & Bro. LONG & wife. By letter: J. R. SPILLARS & wife. Total 11. Baptized three infants: Lawrence son of T. P. & Laura CROUCH, Carrie daughter of Nate & Lou ELLIOT, and George son of Thomas & Josephine BLEDSOE

Our missionary zeal has not reached the "giving" point yet. However I might conjecture by what I can see all round, it has reached, a "given" Point, "zero". We have not seen many of the members personally, but expect to try to do so as our collections report so little success with our collection cards. Some of our most able members offering to pay twenty-five cents to the eight claims. Some of our members have not the means to pay to any thing this year, owing to short crops, I might say failure, and if our moneyed members are thus shut up within themselves, is it any wonder that all the church enterprises suffer? Oh for a renewal of our vows wherein we have promised to support the institutions of the church. When we are more liberal toward the church & when we cease to rob God in tithes & offerings, then will our God open the windows of heaven & pour us out a blessing that we will not have room to receive, it will be so rich & great. If we as members of the church of Jesus Christ would pay our tithes to his church no cause would languish but every collection would be reported in full and men's hearts would rejoice in God & not in their earthly possessions. May God help us to do our duty. Amen

Dear Brethren:
We have exhorted our people on the S. S. question early and often but as yet we have had but one S. S. to report. Macy has a S. S., which bids fair to do good. In many instances our instructions to the children are seconded by their parents actions and when this is not the case no one, no not even an apostle could report much done in the way of instruction of children and the young people of the church. The S. S. and league are children of the church & they should be in hearts of the fathers & mothers in the church & their saving power made known to the children & the young people through them. May the Lord bless us and help us to show our faith by our works.

We have no great spiritual progress to report since our last meeting. Our spiritual state is tolerably good, better in some places, not so good in others. As the Christmas holidays were passed since our last quarterly meeting so since then some of our people have during the days of Christmas feasting mingled a little heathenish practice with the festivities, Viz, tripping the light fantastic toe. Our dealings with such shall always be conformable to the spirit & wisdom of the quadrennial address of the bishops. Tis a pity some people can’t learn good lessons from the account of the worship of the golden calf & other scriptural accounts of idolatry. Which things "are written for our learning". The children in the main are following their parent’s examples notwithstanding the instruction and preaching of the preacher. Two children baptized, Nittie & Clara MCBRIDE. Six dismissed by letter: J. W. BROWN & wife, Henry GEORGE & wife, Sandy SMITH & wife. One withdrawn from the church, J. T. CRAIG.

To P.E. & members of the second quarterly conf. P. R. cir. Cal. dist. Tex. Conf.
May 15, 1897 Dear Brethren:
It gives us pleasure to report the organization of and Epworth league at R. P. this qtr. with the good start of nineteen members. Our first devotional service held was full of interest & spirit & was greatly enjoyed by all present. We are confident that the league will grow in interest & numbers as the people get better acquainted with its workings. We report only one S. S., it at Macy. Our superintendent informs me the number of pupils are increasing & the interest growing. Our preaching has been in simple speech & often particularly directed to the children. Have not had any regular children's service. We feel sure that if parents would cooperate with the ministry by precept & example the day would not be far distant when our children would be found seeking the fellowship of the church instead of seeming to be so disinterested in religious matters & the workings of the church. An exhortation on this line might be given here at length but we desist hoping & praying for much improvement along these lines.

Our congregations are larger, the interest more manifest in the services of the church & the more refractory ones showing more personal interest in their own salvation. On the work there are three weekly prayer meetings, not including the meetings of the league. All tolerably well attended and in some services quite a congregation meet for religious songs & prayer. We have dismissed two by certificate this qtr. Viz: Wiggins FORD & Etta ISGITT. Two have died this Qtr. Viz Bro. Henry RUMFIELD and Sister Frances VENABLE. Sister VENABLE was for 50 yrs. a member of the METHODIST Church & died in that faith & went home to God, March 1897.
