| NOTES: Martin Wiley COPELAND--Martin and Rachel lived at Starkeville, Oktibehha Co.,MS until about 1854, then moved to Leon Co, TX and settled between the communities of Venetia and Bethesda. McDonald COPELAND--served in the 1st Texas Brigade and was killed in the Civil War. Louisa J. COPELAND--never married and was called "Aunt Vicey" C. Columbus COPELAND--served in the American Civil War. He suffered with diseases. He fought in many battles and was wounded, then returned to Leon County. Felix Grundy COPELAND--joined the 1st Texas Brigade at age 16 and told his parents if Texas wouldn't accept him he would go to another southern state to be a confederate soldier. He fought and was wounded, he the returned to Leon County. |
