Leon Co., TX. Deed Book 19, pgs. #109 - #110. The State of Texas, County of Leon. "Know all men by these presents the we J. J. BARKER and wife Martha E. BARKER of the county of Leon in the State aforesaid, for and in consideration of the sum of Three Hundred Dollars to me paid and secured to be paid by W. I. POWELL as follows. Note No. 1 for One Hundred and Fifty ($150.00) Dollars bearing same date as this deed and Due Dec. 15th 1901 with 8% Int. from maturity until paid. Note No. 2 for One Hundred and Fifty ($150.00) Dollars bearing same date as above and due Dec. 15th 1902 with 8 % from Dec. 15th 1901 until paid. The above Notes retain a Vendor's Lien on the premises described below, have granted, Sold and Conveyed, and by these presents, do grant, Sell and Convey unto the said W. I. POWELL of the County of Leon and State of Texas, all that certain Lot, Tract or Parcel of Land described as follows, Being a part of the John ARCHER survey situated in Leon County and State of Texas. More fully described by filed notes as follows, to wit: Beginning on the West line of the WHITAKER survey at a Stake a Post Oak marked X 4 inches [diameter] bears S. 14 degrees 6 9/10 vrs. to a Stake for corner, Thence S. 60 degrees W. 602 vrs. to a Stake a Hickory marked X 10 inches [diameter] bears S. 60 degrees W. 3 vrs., Thence N. E. about 600 vrs. running parallel with the Centerville and Bryan road to Stake on the WHITAKER league line from which a Post Oak marked X bears S. 6 vrs., Thence with the WHITAKER line to the place of beginning; containing 18 acres of Land more or less." BARKER acknowledged such instrument to be her act and deed, and declared that she had willing signed the same for the purposes and consideration therein expressed, and that she did not wish to retract it.
