Census Records

Jim Wells was created in 1911 so the first census was in 1920.
Census records can be accessed at FamilySearch.org with a free account.
In 1920, the census was enumerated in January and many families were missed, likely due to weather. The census gives the regular information such as names, ages, birth places, occupations and whether the folks owned their homes. It offers very little in the way of extra information except for the names of the roads on which the people lived.
We have a copy of the 1920 census for the area in Alice "north of the Mexican Railroad".
The 1930 census offers regular information plus addresses for folks in town, age at first marriage and veteran status.
In 1940, it offers addresses for folks in town, education level, residence in 1935, employment status and total income for 1939.
