Park Day @ Sabine Pass Battleground Park
The Civil War Preservation Trust, a national organization, designated Saturday, April 18th, 2009 as "Park Day." The annual event was sponsored by the Texas Historical Commission. It was a work day designed to give the public an opportunity to visit and improve a historic site. Sabine Pass Battleground Park has been severely damaged by recent hurricanes. In spite of rain, cold and wind blowing approximately 50 miles an hour, members of the public, Jefferson County Historical Commission and Friends of Sabine Pass Battleground met and spent the day setting up picnic tables, replacing soil around the Dick Dowling monument and cleaning the area. Hats off to these hardy souls and to Efrem Hill, Sr., Maintenance Supervisor in Sabine Pass for the Texas Historical Commission, and his family for a job well done! |
