War of 1812

The following list of Veterans of the War of 1812, who were at some time in Texas, was mostly gleaned from "War of 1812 Veterans in Texas," by Mary Smith Fay, published in 1979. Much more detailed information on the veterans' service and family, etc. are included in this most informative book which covers all of Texas.

The requirements for inclusion in her book was service (military or civilian) in the War of 1812 and that each one had been in Texas at one time or another.

Included here are those veterans who are known to have been in the following counties: Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Newton, Orange, Sabine, San Augustine and Tyler. Also included are those in Chambers, Liberty, Polk and San Jacinto, as those counties were also in the original Atascocito District of Texas which covered most of what is now referred to as Southeast Texas. There are a few who had some other connection to the above counties (Example: someone from Sabine Co. swearing they had served in the War of 1812 with the person in question).

Widows of the War of 1812 veterans who came to the above counties in Texas are included at the end of the regular listing.

There are a few that were known to be veterans of the War of 1812 that were not included in Mrs. Fay's book. Hopefully, there will be more detailed information on these and other veterans and their families in the near future. If you know of additional veterans, with a connection to the above counties, please send an email so they may be included also.
