Welcome to Hutchinson County, TXGenWeb!
Hutchinson was created in 1876 but was't organized until 1901 with the county seat at Plemons. It was named for an early lawyer, Andrew Hutchinson. After a special election in 1926, the county seat was moved to Stinnet. The county sits in the center of the panhandle - one county away from Oklahoma - and Stinnet is nearly in the center of it. We are probably most noted for the two Battles of Adobe Walls where Kit Carson was defeated by natives in the first one and 28 men successfully defended their town in the second one.- On-Site Information
