HUBERT ERLE NORTHCUTT
Mr. Hubert Erle Northcutt, age 79 passed away at his home in Rock Springs on Sun-day, November 30, 2003. Mr. Northcutt was born September 23, 1924, in Graham, Okla-homa, son of Hubert and Ethel Northcutt. Mr. Northcutt served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Northcutt had a long and versatile career in the oilfield from 1940 to 1986. Twenty-five years with Halliburton included five years as District Superintendent of the Vernal, Utah/Rock Springs areas. Mr. Northcutt was a drilling super-visor for the Indonesian-American Oil Company (IIAPCO) for twelve years based in Jakarta, Indonesia. After returning to the States, he supervised drilling opera-tions for Diamond Shamrock in China, Tunisia, Ghana, Ha-waii and Colombia.
Mr. Northcutt retired to his home in East Texas. Mr. Northcutt and Dorris moved to Rock Springs in 1989 to be near their children.
Survivors include his wife, Dorris of 61 years; three chil-dren, Susanne Ellis and hus-band Bill, Erlene Slaugh and husband Gary, Pat Slaugh and husband Craig; six grandchil-dren, Rita Oriet, Gary Erle, Justin and Travis Slaugh, Stacy Ellis and Stephanie Ellis (USN Korea); four great grandchildren, Wes and Ryan Slaugh, Lacy and Kaila Oriet, all of Rock Springs; one sister, Helen Donaldson of Waco.
Preceded in death by his parents; brother Richard Northcutt.

Mrs. Mable McKinney Jones Johnson was born April 5, 1933 to the late Edgar and Helen McKinney in Crockett. She attended the Hopewell Community Schools.
She passed away on Sept. 20, 2003 in Crockett. Survi-vors are: 6 children; Autherine Strange of Crockett, Vickie Jones and companion R. E. DOMENICK MARIETTA
Mr. Domenick Marietta, age 90 passed away December 5, 2003 in Crockett. Mr. Marietta was a veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific and was a lifelong dairy farmer and rancher in Fairbanks and Crockett.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years Alpha Marietta; children, Linda Marietta, Shirley Marietta, Steven Marietta and wife Pamela; granddaughters: Amy Brown, Hannah Marietta, Cameron Smith and husband Justin; great-grandson: Noah Smith; and brother: Ernest Marietta and wife Mildred.
Funeral services were held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2003, in the Chapel of Earthman Resthaven. Interment followed in the Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.

Mr. Kenneth Hill "Sam" Huff, age 55 of Grapeland, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2003 at Presbyterian Hospital in Plano. Mr. Huff was born August 9, 1948 in Palestine to S.W. "Pete" Huff and Martha Jane Yount Huff. Mr. Huff graduated from Grapeland High School and attended Santa Barbara City College, Santa Barbara, CA. and Sam Houston State University. Mr. Huff was an employee of Nucor Corporation for 30 years. Mr. Huff served as general manager of the Vulcraft Division in Grapeland and retired as general manager of Nucor Steel in Jewett, and as a Vice-President of Nucor Corporation in July of 1999. Mr. Huff was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grapeland.
Survivors include his wife Patti Huff of Grapeland; daughter and son-in-law Mary Jane and Greg Gunter of Frisco; granddaughters Katherine Gunter and Sarah Gunter of Frisco; mother and step-father Jane and Howard Van Winkle of Auburn, Calif.; sister Lisa Bleakley of Allen; brother Barry Grant and wife Judy of Bardstown, Ky.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Beulah Davis Reagans was born March 15, 1938 to Elvie and Henry Davis in Nacogdo-ches. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church since childhood. She worked as a cook at several local res-taurants including, the Royal, King's Inn, and Crockett Inn. On December 21, 1957 she was married to Melvin C. Reagans "Mal C."
Life's departure was on De-cember 21, 2003 at the local hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters; Jose-phine Watkins, Doris Town-son, Betty Sue Davis, Willie Mae Townson, 4 brothers; Fred, Dan, R. L., and Charles Davis.

Mr. Gorden Stubblefield, age 100 of Kennard, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at his residence in Kennard. Mr. Stubblefield was born January 2, 1903 in Kennard and had lived in Kennard all of his lifetime. Mr. Stubblefield worked as a farmer and was a member of the Mt. Olive Congregational Church.

Mrs. Janice (Jan) Stewart Lawder, age 70 of Crockett, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2003 in the East Texas Medical Center-Crockett. Mrs. Lawder was born May 20, 1933 in Lorain, Ohio and was a longtime resident of Houston until recently moving to Crockett. Mrs. Lawder worked as a secretary and was a housewife.
Survivors include her children Sharon Ann Chisum McDougald, of Creek, Richard Lee Chisum, of Austonio; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Mary Helen Waddell, age 65 of Crockett, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2003 in the East Texas Medi-cal Center-Crockett. Mrs. Waddell was born March 7, 1938 in Waco and had been living in Crockett for the past seven years. Mrs. Wadell was a member of the American Legion Post#134 and was a housewife.

Mr. Robert Harry Bloom, age 79 of Latexo, passed away Friday, December 19, 2003 in the East Texas Medical Center-Crockett. Mr. Bloom was born February 8, 1924 in Cario, Michigan and had been living in Latexo for the past four years. Mr. Bloom was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II. Mr. Bloom was a retired truck driver and was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Crockett.

Mr. Eric Arledge, age 19 of Moulton, passed away December 23, 2003. Mr. Arledge was born May 7, 1984 in Shiner. Mr. Arledge was a shift manager for McDonald's in Flatonia and was also a part-time employee of Smith Funeral Home in Moulton and Flatonia.

Mr. Bob Currie, age 69 of Kennard, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2003 at East Texas Medical Center-Crockett. Mr. Currie was born July 3, 1934 in Houston County and was a lifetime resident of Houston County. Mr. Currie was a veteran of the National Guard. Mr. Currie was owner and operator of Currie Construction, Inc. Mr. Currie was the coordinator of Texas Logging Council in Lufkin, was the facilitator for Texas Best Management Practices Training and was managing editor of Texas Logger. Mr. Currie was a member of the Houston County Farm Bureau where he served as a Director and was past president, he served on the Texas Forestry Association as a lifetime member and was president in 1989, Charter Member of the Texas Logging Council, Charter Member of the American Logging County, member of the Forest Resources Association, member of American Forest and Pa-per Association, member of the Society of American Foresters and was the past president of the Houston County Forest Landowners Association. Mr. Currie was also a member of the Mt. Olive Church.

MELBA ELOISE WELCH HARRISON
Mrs. Melba Eloise Welch Harrison, age 78 of Crockett, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2003 in the East Texas Medical Center-Tyler. Mrs. Harrison was born July 27, 1925 in Houston County. Mrs. Harrison graduated from Grapeland High School and later attended Business College in Palestine. Mrs. Harrison married Eugene Har-rison in Crockett on September 15, 1946. Mrs. Harrison taught at universities in Texas, Georgia and South Caro-lina. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison and their four children lived in each of these states until returning to Texas in 1978, where they have since lived. Mrs. Harrison was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crockett and was a member of the Disciples Sunday School Class. Mrs. Harrison has participated in community activities as a member of the Pilot Club of Crockett.

Mrs. Margaret C. Myers, age 86 of Baytown, passed away December 17, 2003 at her residence in Baytown. Mrs. Myers was born November 25, 1917 in Cookville. Mrs. Myers was a retired assistant cashier at Peoples State Bank with 32 years of service. Mrs. Myers was a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Myers was famous for her chocolate pie.

BILLIE PURCELL
Mrs. Billie Purcell, went to be with the Lord on December 6, 2003. Mrs. Purcell fought a long and hard battle with emphysema. Mrs. Purcell was a Crockett High School graduate 1937 and was a US Air Force career naval command officer. After being widowed in 1973, Mrs. Purcell went on to have a long and fulfilling career with Se-curity Service Federal Credit Union.
Survivors include her son Ronnie Purcell; brothers Perry and Harold Robertson; several nieces and nephews from a large extended loving family and many dear friends.
Preceded in death by her father and mother Ronnie O. Robertson and Albertine Robertson; husband of 27 years Bernard "Pert" Purcell.

Mrs. Annie Marketa Steffek Weeks, age 82 of Crockett, passed away Friday, December 12, 2003 in the East Texas Medical Center-Crockett. Mrs. Weeks was born February 11, 1921 in Houston County all of her lifetime. Mrs. Weeks was a housewife and a member of the Antioch Baptist Church-Lovelady.

HARMON ADAMS
Mr. Harmon Adams, age 83 of Lovelady, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2003 in the East Texas Medi-cal Center-Crockett. Mr. Adams was born August 14, 1920 in Houston County and had lived in Lovelady all of his lifetime. Mr. Adams was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II in the 88th Division of the 351st Regiment known as the "Blue Devils," in Italy. Mr. Adams was a farmer and rancher all of his life in Houston County. Mr. Adams received the "Outstanding Beef Cattle Producer" award in 1981. Mr. Adams attended the Grace Street Church of Christ.

Sis. Evola Fisher Watson was born July 9, 1914 in Crockett to the parentage of Henry and Charlotte Fisher. She was an active member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, her many church activities included the United Methodist Women Auxiliary as well as a member of the Eastern Star.
On November 28, 1933 she was married to the late Hunter Watson of Lovelady to this union 6 children were born.
Life's departure was on December 8, 2003 at the local hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, 1 son Vernon Watson, 1 great-granddaughter, Actavia Evans, a spe-cial daughter in law, Essie Watson, 3 brothers, Ben Wooten, Albert Kinmon, and J.D. Fisher.
Survivors are 5 sons; Hunter Watson II and wife Mary of Crockett, Henry Watson of Houston, Claude Watson and wife Darlene of Crockett, Merlon Watson and wife Cindy, Clayton Watson and wife Patricia of Houston, nu-merous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Miss Jeanette Elaine, age 75 of Weldon, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 9, 2003. Miss Mann was born on March 16, 1928. Miss Mann was a member of the Christ of Christ-Houston and was retired from Texas Instruments where she worked as coordinator in computer services. Miss Mann loved gardening, crocheting, writing poetry and being out in nature. Miss Mann was a wonderful mother, kind and compassionate, the head cen-ter and heart of our family. We have eternal love for you Mother, because you have loved us sacrificially and un-conditionally. These last few weeks with you have been a source of joy and love. As you have desired, the circle will remain unbroken. We will miss your beautiful spirit and heart. We will see you soon in Heaven, when Jesus calls our name, we must wait until then. A.C. CUTLER
Mr. A.C. Cutler, age 94, passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 in the East Texas Medical Center-Crockett. Mr. Cutler was born February 6, 1909 in Ratcliff. As a young man, Mr. Cutler was raised in New Mexico, Louisiana, and also the Liberty Hill and Augusta Communities. Mr. Cutler attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville and Sam Houston State University. Mr. Cutler taught math at the C.C. Camp in Ratcliff during World War I. Mr. Cutler was a contractor in Houston County for many years and later he worked for the University of Houston. Mr. Cutler retired to Houston County to his home at Liberty Hill. Mr. Cutler was a gifted musician playing the fiddle, guitar and mandolin. Mr. Cutler had a great love for country, blue grass music and was an avid domino player. Mr. Cutler loved to travel and had seen 48 states in the U.S. Mr. Cutler was a member of the Central Baptist Church.

Mrs. Nina Catherine Woelfley Reynolds, age 94 of Crockett, passed away Monday, December 8, 2003 in the Crockett Care Center. Mrs. Reynolds was born May 7, 1909 in Porter Springs and had lived most of her lifetime in Houston County, with the exception of thirty-two years that she lived in Trinity. Mrs. Reynolds graduated from Porter Springs School and then attended Sam Houston State University. Mrs. Reynolds was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II in the Women's Auxiliary Corp. (WACS) as a nurse. Mrs. Reynolds was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mrs. Reynolds was a housewife and also, a nurse for local doctors and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Trinity.
Survivors include her only nephew Roy L. Henry and wife JoAnn, of Porter Springs; four special cousins Rose-mary Owles and husband Bob, of Katy, Renee (Cathy) Van Natter and husband Bert, of Bertram, Sylvia Arnold, of Shreveport, La., Joe Grant and wife Marie, of Hockley.

BENFORD J. MORROW
Mr. Benford J. Morrow, age 82 of Holly, passed away Monday, December 8, 2003 in the East Texas Medical Center Trauma Unit in Tyler from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Holly. Mr. Morrow was born January 2, 1921 in Holly and had been living in Holly for the past 31 years. Mr. Morrow was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Company B-413th Infantry Division and was wounded in Germany during World War II. Mr. Morrow worked as a machinist and was a member of the First Baptist Church-Lovelady.
Survivors include his daughter Linda Burkhalter and husband Milton; son Benny Morrow and partner Mary Lightfoot; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; numerous friends in Holly and Lovelady; last but not least Brown Dog and Tom Cat.

RANDEL LEE (JUNIOR) ANDREWS JR.
Mr. Randel Lee (Junior) Andrews Jr., age 71 passed away peacefully on his Heavenly reward December 7, 2003 at the Crockett Care Center in Crockett. Mr. Andrews was born January 14, 1932 in Jackson to Randel Lee (Red) Andrews Sr. and Ola Beatrice (Reynolds) Andrews. Mr. Andrews enjoyed reading his bible and had a quick wit and a sharp mind for entrepreneurial enterprises. In his younger years he worked at a variety of occupations starting in the oil fields of East Texas and then in numerous private enterprises. For many years Randel ran his own auto re-pair business until failing health forced him to retire in the early 1980's.
Mr. Andrews spent his retirement years in Van where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, taking care of his roses and watching classic movies.
Preceded in death by his mother and father Randel Lee (Red) Andrews Sr. and Ola Beatrice (Reynolds) Andrews; two brothers Joe Edward Andrews and Noah Clifford Andrews.

Mr. Eugene Franklin Perry, age 76 of Crockett, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2003 in the East Texas Medical Center-Crockett. Mr. Perry was born October 22, 1927 in Lovelady and had lived all of his lifetime in Houston County. Mr. Perry attended North Texas University and was a graduate of Sam Houston State University. Mr. Perry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was also the pianist. Mr. Perry worked as a music teacher for a private school.

LEROY WALLING
Mr. Leroy Walling, age 66 of Ratcliff, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2003 at his residence. Mr. Walling was born January 1, 1937 in Ratcliff and had lived all of his lifetime in Ratcliff. Mr. Walling was a log truck driver.
Survivors include his children Ernest Walling and wife Lisa, of Kennard, Pam Walling Moran, of Crockett, Randy Walling, of Ratcliff, Patricia Walling Polk and husband Virgil, of Houston; children's mother Betty Walling, of Ratcliff; grandchildren Christopher Walling and wife Misty, Josh and Brice Walling, Heather and Seth Walling, Jason and Jessica Dowdy, Corey Smith, Jonathan and Anna Polk; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, neph-ews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by his son Joe Walling.

DR. CARLYLE DAVID DOTSON
Dr. Carlyle David Dotson, age 56 of Grapeland, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2003 in Latexo. Dr. Dotson was born February 16, 1947 in Houston and had lived in Houston County most of his lifetime. Dr. Dotson was a doctor of veterinary medicine and was owner of the Westside Animal Clinic in Hudson. Dr. Dotson was a graduate of Texas A&M University and was a member of the Texas A&M Alumni. Dr. Dotson was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Lufkin.
Survivors include his wife Peggy Leavings Dotson, of Grapeland; children Jennifer Dotson, Christopher Dotson, Meredith Dotson, all of Grapeland, Jessica Malone and husband Larry, of Nacogdoches, Datha Ward, of Lufkin; grandchildren Chase, Keara, Laurel, Jacob and Andrew; brothers Garland Dotson and wife Karol, of Fredricksburg, Gene Dotson and wife Carolyn, of Jacksonville, Gale Dotson, of Austonio; sister-in-law Rhonda Dotson, of Fredricksburg; mother-in-law Mervia Lee Leavings, of Lufkin; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by his parents Fritz and Ora Dotson; and brother Darnell Dotson.

ELSIE BETH MAINER HELM
Mrs. Elsie Beth Mainer Helm, the seventh child of Thomas Nelms and Mattie (Williams) Mainer, was born on November 18, 1919 in Lovelady. Mrs. Nelms attended school in Lovelady until her senior year. Mrs. Nelms then took up residence with her oldest sister and brother-in-law in Yoakum and graduated from Yoakum High School. Mrs. Helm received her Bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State University, and taught in Yoakum and Love-lady schools. Mrs. Helm entered the service of her country as a SPAR, auxiliary to the Coast Guard, in WWII. After training in Florida, she was stationed at the Navy District Pay Office in St. Louis, Missouri, until her discharge in 1945. While in the service, Elsie Beth met Roger Helm, son of Herman and Agnes Belle (Rogers) Helm of Phillips, Wisconsin. Mr. Helm was in the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army and served in the CBI Theater, and the Army of Occupation in Tokyo, Japan. They were married on March 17, 1946 in Lovelady. They lived in Chicago, Illinois for a time, then moved Houston.
Mrs. Helm taught in the Houston Independent School District. Mrs. Helm taught Kindergarten at Burbank Ele-mentary. Mrs. Helm quit teaching to start her family, becoming a loving, devoted mother to her three children. Mrs. Helm resumed her teaching career in HISD at Emerson Elementary where she taught 2nd and 3rd grades until her retirement in 1981. Mrs. Helm was a member of Richmond Plaza Baptist Church. Mrs. Helm took an active part in the development of the church school, helping with the curriculum and serving on the school's board. In spite of three cancer surgeries, she kept involved in church activities. Mrs. Helm was a charter member of the Major Jarrell Beasley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Crockett. Mrs. Helm was a genealogical re-searcher par excellence and furnished much research for the books published on the Mainer and Nelms families.
Mrs. Helm moved with her husband to New Braunfels in 1999 to be closer to their daughter. Mrs. Helm passed away at home on November 28, 2003.
Survivors include her devoted husband Roger Helm; three children Roger M. Helm and wife Ginger, Danny I. Helm and Margaret H. Busch and husband Randy; three grandchildren Marc Helm and wife Michele, Annaleise Helm, and James Busch; great-granddaughter Hazel Anne Helm; sisters Ella Francis Dodd, Lucille Boyd and Pol-lyanna McEldowney; and many loving friends and relatives. Mrs. Helm will be dearly missed.
Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Dan and Tom Mainer; sister Margaret Muenker.
Funeral services for Mrs. Elsie Beth Mainer Helm were held Saturday, December 6, at 2:00 p.m. in the Lovelady First Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Matthews and the Rev. Leroy Pearson officiating. Interment followed in the Lovelady Evergreen Cemetery.

SEAMUS ELMA STRANGE
Mr. Seamus Elma Strange was born October 30, 1937 to Jesse Sr. and Lona Strange in Trinity. He was educated in the Crockett Public Schools. He joined Progressive Baptist Church early in life and later joined Bethel A.M.E. Church in San Antonio. Seamus is remembered for working with traveling carnivals as a young man and after mov-ing to San Antonio driving a taxi for most of his adult life. Seamus passed away on November 27, 2003 in San An-tonio.
He was preceded in death by 2 wives, father, and a brother.
Survivors are: devoted mother; Lona Lee Strange of Crockett, 2 sisters; Dorothy Smith and husband John L. of Harker Heights, Texas, Vickie Johnson and husband John of Crockett, 2 brothers; Jesse Strange Jr, Tommy Strange and wife Annette of Houston, 3 aunts, 2 uncles, special friend; Theodis "Poochie" Jones, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

VERDA HYDE
Mrs. Verda Hyde, age 91 of Conroe, previously of Weldon Community, passed away Friday, November 14, 2003 at her residence in Conroe. Mrs. Hyde was born April 21, 1912 in Milam and had been living in Conroe for the past seven years, formerly of the Weldon Community. Mrs. Hyde was a member of the Daughters of the Revolution and Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Mrs. Hyde was a housewife and also a member of the Weldon Baptist church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Orland Hyde and wife Beckie, of Montgomery; grandchildren Ronald Everett Hyde and wife Karen, of Shenandoah, Susan Hyde Delaney and husband Sean, of Duluth, Ga., John Robert Hyde, of Houston; great-grandson Doulton Delaney.

Mr. L.D. Lowe, age 61 of Lovelady, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2003 in the East Texas Medical Cen-ter-Crockett. Mr. Lowe was born June 24, 1942 in New Gulf and had been living in Lovelady for the past fourteen years, previously living in Houston. Mr. Lowe was a salesman for a food service company and a member of the First United Methodist Church-Lovelady.
Survivors include his son Larry Lowe and wife Elke, of Shepherd; wife Mary A. Lowe, of Lovelady; step-daughters Bette Reyes and husband Jose, of Galveston, Kemper Dotson and husband Kenny, of Boerne; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Patti Anne Schroeder, age 48 of Crockett, passed away Monday, November 17, 2003 in the St. Joseph Re-gional Health Center in Bryan. Mrs. Schoeder was born March 11, 1955 in Knoxville, Tennessee and had been liv-ing in Crockett for the past fourteen years. Mrs. Schroeder was a housewife and a member of the Bethlehem Lu-theran Church in Brenham.

Mrs. Lois Inez Vaughan Cardenas, age 86 of South Houston, passed away in the comfort of her home Friday, No-vember 7, 2003. Mrs. Cardenas was born February 10, 1917 in the Plain Community of Houston County to Lillie Mae and Matthew Brittain Vaughan. Mrs. Cardenas grew up and attended School in Belott Community.

Mr. Bob Rothenberger, age 70 of Grapeland, passed away Monday, November 10, 2003 in the East Texas Medi-cal Center-Crockett. Mr. Rothenberger was born September 24, 1933 in Sayre, Oklahoma and had been living in Grapeland for the past ten years, previously living in Carrollton. Mr. Rothenberger was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Rothenberger was a rancher.
Survivors include his wife Barbara Rothenberger, of Grapeland; children Eddy Rothenberger, of Garland, Rodney Rothenberger, Randy Rothenberger, both of Dallas, LaDan Rothenberger, of Fort Worth; step-daughter Misti Sar-gent and husband Robert, of Irving; grandchildren Kyle, Andrew and Remie; and numerous cousins.

TERRY GLENN STEADMAN
Mr. Terry Glenn Steadman, age 45 of Crockett, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at his residence. Mr. Steadman was born December 7, 1957 in Palestine to Jerry Steadman and Wynice Caskey Whitaker. Mr. Steadman was a self-employed welder. Mr. Steadman was a member of the San Pedro Baptist Church. Terry will be greatly missed by his family and friends and everyone that knew him.

DR. GEORGE G. ALEXANDER
Memorial services for Dr. George G. Alexander passed away Sunday, November 2, 2003 were held Thursday, November 6, at 1:00 p.m. at the Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Bellville with his cousin the Rev. Sam Riccobene officiating.
Dr. Alexander lifelong humanitarian was born in Kennedy March 18, 1926 to R.T. and Irene Alexander. Dr. Alexander graduated from Kennedy High School and attended the University of Texas in Austin, but his studies were interrupted as he entered WWII. Before his departure for service he married Helen Cunningham whom he met at the University of Texas. Dr. Alexander served in the Pacific Theater and was attached to General Douglas Mac-Arthur's Headquarters in Manila. After the war, Dr. Alexander returned to get his medical degree from Baylor Col-lege of Medicine, graduating from Baylor Medical School in 1951 and establishing his medical office in Family Practice in Pasadena where he began his lifetime of community service.
Dr. Alexander was chairman of the group of doctors that built Pasadena Bayshore Hospital. While there he served on the Board of Hospital Corporation of America. Some of his many achievements include his service of the Board of Managers of Harris County Hospital District from 1973-1992, helped establish the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and served as its chairman for many years, served on the Board of the Greater Houston Aids Alliance, asso-ciated with the Harris County Medical Society and was president in 1974. He also became president of the Texas Medical Association of the Texas Association in 1983 and -Chairman of the delegation to the American Medical Association afterwards. Dr. Alexander was instrumental in starting the J.P. McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Science, serving on its Board and later chairman.
Dr. Alexander many community service awards included the Distinguished Alumnus Award for Baylor College of Medicine in 1989, Humanitarian of the Year for Hermann Hospital, Honored Lifegiver by the Gulf Coast Re-gional Blood Center and the Medical Service to Mankind Award from the Leukemia Society in 2000. The Texas Medical Association honored him with its Physician of the Year Award and after retiring received the Retired Phy-sician of the Year from that Houston organization. Dr. Alexander returned to Bellville where he continued to serve, fostering youth groups and through his Presbyterian Church activities.
Dr. Alexander connection with the Straughan family in Lovelady brought him to Houston County where he also reached out to fill community needs.
Among his survivors his wife of 58 years Helen Cunningham; daughter Diane Alexander, of Houston; three sons Dr. Raymond Alexander and wife Jane, George Alexander Jr. and wife Michele and Jeffery Alexander and wife Dawna; eight grandchildren all of Houston.

ELVIS H. RICH
Mr. Elvis H. Rich, age 76, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2003 in Houston. Mr. Rich was born September 4, 1927 in Anderson County to Robert and Clara Rich. Mr. Rich was the owner of Quality Solids Control Company in Houston.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years Virginia Rich; children Jimmie Rich and wife Betty, David Rich and wife Betsy, Linda Geraghty and husband Keith, and Philip Rich and wife Miriam; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters Lois Shanks, Martha Brooks and Jane Tyre; brothers R.C. Rich and Ed Rich.

BILLIE A. BARRIER
Mr. Billie A. Barrier, age 84 of Angleton, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2003 in a Houston Hospital. Mr. Barrier was born December 18, 1918 in Crockett to Major Eli and Lena Allbright. Mr. Barrier graduated from Pear-son Chapel High School in May of 1937 and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Barrier was a resident of Angleton since 1953 and a member of the St. John Lutheran Church. Mr. Barrier loved playing dominos and did so regularly with the gang at City Drugs. Mr. Barrier also loved to play Free Cell on the computer and became quite a computer buff. Mr. Barrier also loved playing with his grandsons and spending time at his country home in Crockett.
Survivors include his wife Trudy Barrier, of Angleton; daughters Kay Alieen Smitherman and husband Joe Carl, of Angleton, B.A. Jones and husband Jimmie J., of Conroe; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his brothers Eldred and Debs Barrier; and sister Erma Barrier.

Mr. Charles (Chuck) Willingham, age 70 of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2003 in the Conroe Regional Medical Center. Mr. Willingham was born January 23, 1933 in Jewett and had been living in Cleveland for the past five years, previously living in Humble. Mr. Willingham was a retired used car dealer.

Harvey Huff
Services for Harvey Huff, 84, of Grapeland will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Grapeland with the Rev. David Bradley officiating. Burial will be in Dailey Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mr. Huff died Sunday at East Texas Medical Center in Crockett.
He was born Jan. 22, 1919 in the Dalys community in Houston County to Eugene "Brud" and Lorena Brown Huff.
Mr. Huff was a farmer and rancher. He also served two terms on the Grapeland Independent School District School Board, and was owner and director at the First State Bank in Grapeland for over 30 years. He also was a member of First Baptist Church of Grapeland.
Mr. Huff was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene "Brud" Huff and Lorena Brown Huff; sister, Luna Frank Matthews; brothers, Gene Huff, and Nolan Huff; and a great-granddaughter, Lauren Elaine Skidmore.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brad Huff, Kyle Huff, and Ken Skidmore; nephews, Larry Huff, Mitchell Huff, Scott Huff, Steven Huff and Ronny Finke.

 Michael Keith Lamb
Services for Michael Keith Lamb, 48, of Crockett, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Simpson Chapel Baptist Church in Kennard. Burial will follow at McKelvey Cemetery in Kennard under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home of Crockett.
Mr. Lamb died Saturday at the University of Texas Medical Center in Tyler.

Lula Lurlene King Gipson
Services for Lula Lurlene King Gipson, 85, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Miles Chapel CME Church with the Rev. Henry Lovelady officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Crockett. Arrangements are under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home, Crockett.
Mrs. Gipson died Thursday at her residence.
