Adam Mille Decuir

Mr. Adam Mille Decuir, 88, of Crockett died Friday evening a local
hospital.

Mr. Decuir was born in New Iberia, La., but had lived in Crocket for the
last 65 years. He was manager of St. Francis Catholic Church.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the St. Francis Catholic
Church, with Father W. E. Hamilton officiating. Burial was in Evergreen
Memorial Park.

Survivors include eight nieces and five nephews.

Roy Thomas Dees

Mr. Roy Thomas Dees, 70, of Latexo died Nov. 13 in a Tyler, Texas hospital.

Mr. Dees was born Dec. 4, 1902 in Gibsland, La. He was a veteran of World
War II and a retired machinist.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Callaway
Memorial Chapel, with Rev. E. D. Sarratt officiating. Burial was in the
Latexo Cemetey.

Pallbearers were Merle Johnson, George Lane, Alfred Minter, Doyle Bennett,
R. L. Hazlett and D. R. Hazlett.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ollie M. Dees of Latexo; two sons, Tommie
Gean Dees of Lindale, and Howard Morgeson of Pasadena; two brother Earl and
Arthur Dees of Gainsville; three sisters, Mrs. Mamie Gueran of McKinney,
Mrs. Lillian Edwards of Navada, Texas and Mrs. Vivian Kirkpatrick of
Gunter; four grandchildren.

Mrs. E. L. (Lennie) Denman

Funeral services for Mrs. E. L. (Lennie) Denman, 64, of Rt. 3, Grapeland
(Salmon community), were held Sunday, April 2, at 2:30 p.m. in the
Guiceland Memorial Chapel, Salmon, with the Rev. Charles H. Haley
officiating. Burial was in the Guiceland Cemetery.

The following nephews served as pallbearers: Johnny Falcon, Troy Garrison,
Wilbur Trigg, Sam Garrison, Devoln Garrison, John Montgomery, and Archie
Trigg.

Mrs. Denman, the former Miss Lennie Estelle Trigg, was born at Salmon on
June 26, 1902, and was a daughter of the late William Trigg and Mrs. Sarah
McKinney Trigg. She was a member of the first Baptist Church, Grapeland,
and Grapeland Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 120; also she was a
past matron of the Jacksonville OES Chapter. Prior to retiring in 1955, she
was employed as an office clerk for Missouri Pacific Railroad, and before
moving back to Salmon, she resided in both Freeport and Jacksonville, She
died Friday, March 31, at 9:30 a.m. in her home following a sudden illness.

Survivors: husband, Ernest Leo Denman of Salmon; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy
Borden of Sugarland; two brothers, Charlie Trigg of Elkhart, and Lee Trigg
of Houston; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Garrison of Salmon; two grandchildren;
Gordon Borden Jr. of Huntsville, and Miss Dorothy Jewel Borden of Houston;
several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Emma B. Denman

Funeral services for Mrs. E. H. Denman, 72, of Rt. 3, Grapeland, were held
Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 10 a.m. in the Grapeland Church of Christ, with
James Mosley officiating. Burial was in the Guiceland Cemetery, Salmon.

Mrs. Denman, the former Miss Emma B. Lively, was born in Houston County on
Jan. 13, 1896, and was a daughter of the late Jim Lively and Mrs. Lottie
Walton Lively. She had spent her entire life in Houston County, and was a
member of the Midway Church of Christ. She died Monday, Aug. 12, at 9:15
p.m. in a Palestine nursing home following a long illness.

Survivors include the husband, E. H. (Hubbard) Denman of Grapeland; two
sons, O. T. Denman of Monticello, Ark., and Boyd Denman of Athens; two
daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Sue) Bedford of Grapeland, and Mrs. Harold (Ruth)
Hogan of Huntsville; step-mother, Mrs. Ada Lively of Crockett; two brothers
and two sisters, Guy Lively of Oklahoma and Jim Tom Lively of San Antonio,
Mrs. Mahlon Wright of Grapeland and Mrs. Preston Gilmore of Crockett; three
half-brothers, Roy, Troy and Talmadge Lively, all of El Campo; a half-
sister, Effie; two stepbrothers, Henry Brooks of Crockett and Tolar Brooks;
seven grand children; several nieces and nephews.

Edward Hubbard Denman

Funeral services for Edward Hubbard Denman, 75, of Rt. 3 Grapeland, were
held Monday, Sept. 30, at 4 p.m. in the Grapeland Church of Christ with
James Mosley officiating. Burial was in the Guiceland Cemetery, Salmon.

Mr. Denman was born December 27, 1892, in Trinity County to the late Mose
Denman and Mrs. Ruth Morrison Denman, and died Sunday at 8:15 a. m. in a
Palestine nursing home. Resident of Houston County for over 50 years, he
was a retired farmer and a member of the Midway Church of Christ. His wife,
Mrs. Emma Bell Lively Denman, died Aug. 12, 1968.

Survivors include two sons, O. T. Denman of Monticello, Ark., and Boyd
Denman of Athens; two daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Sue) Bedford of Grapeland, and
Mrs. Harold (Ruth) Hogan of Huntsville; a brother, Homer Denman of
Palestine; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were H. W. Tompkins, Buck Denman, Harlan Denman, George Gaines,
Lloyd Dickey and J. G. Garner.

William Chester Dennis

Mr. William Chester Dennis, 62, of Lake Charles, La., died in that city of
a sudden illness Wednesday, April 24. Mr. Dennis, a night watchman, was
born June 12, 1900, in Ratcliff. He was a member of the Baptist Church and
a veteran of World War II.

Graveside funeral services were held in the County Line Cemetery, near
Kennard, at 2 p.m. Thursday, with Rev. Frank Oswald, Baptist minister of
Kennard, officiating.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

William Henry Denny

Mr. Denny, a life-long resident, and son of pioneer parents, was an elder
of the Presbyterian church, a former director and officer of the Crockett
Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Crockett Rotary Club and of Lothrop
Lodge No. 21, A.F. and A. M., treasurer of the United Fund of Houston
County president of the Crockett State Bank since 1942, and active in
banking and insurance business for 40 years.

Funeral services fro Mr. Denny were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday from the First
Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Warren Hall, pastor, officiating. Elders
and deacons of the church served as active and honorary pallbearers.
Interment was in the Evergreen Memorial Park. Waller Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.

Mr. Denny is survived by his wife, Mrs. Beryl Brooks Denny; a daughter, S.
T. Denny; and a sister, Miss Grace Denny, all of Crockett.

Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Dennis

Services Held For Mrs. Dennis

Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Dennis, 88, of Grapeland were
held Sunday, Jan 20, at 1:30 p.m. in the First Methodist Church, Grapeland
with Rev. John Rozell officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery,
Percilla.

Pallbearers were W. Jesse Gentry, Ned Daniels, Olan Davis, Calvin Dickey,
Polk Brown, and Grady Edge.

Native of Arkansas, Mrs. Dennis was born August 14, 1874. She was the wodow
of Oscar Dennis, who died in 1943. Member of the Methodist church, she
spent most of her life in Houston county. She died Friday at 6 p.m. at her
home.

Survivors: a son, O. D. Dennis of El Paso, Texas; four daughters, Miss
Lorena Dennis and Mrs. Wiley Pridgen, both of Grapeland, Mrs. Albert Gainey
of Liberty and Ms. Harry Scarborough of Huntsville, Texas; 11
grandchildren; several great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Clyde Dennis of Olton, Texas

Denson Rites Held Saturday

Davis O. Denson, Sr.

Davis O. Denson, Sr., 75 died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday July 23, at his home
in Elkhart following a sudden illness. Funeral services were held Saturday
July 26, at 2 p.m. in the Memorial Baptist Church of Elkhart with the Rev.
Lloyd Stewart and the Rev. Clint Grant officiating. Burial followed in the
Livelyville Cemetery.

Born May 29, 1884, Mr. Denson had lived in Elkhart for nine years.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Norba Denson; two sons Davis O. Denson,Jr.
of Grapeland and William Denson of Pasadena; two daughters, Mrs. Clint
Grant of Elkhart and Mrs. Loyce Brannon of Houston; 13 grandchildren; 10
great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lilly Sullivan of Palestine, Mrs.
Lucille Hodges and Mrs. Kathren Lucas both of Dallas.

Funeral arrangements were by Callaway Funeral Home of Crockett.

William Edward Denson

Funeral services for William Edward Denson, 90, of Rt. 3, Grapeland (Mount
City Community), were held Wednesday, March 11, at 2 p.m. in the Evergreen
Chapel, Percilla, with Rev. H. G. Smith of Troup officiating. Burial
followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Grandsons who served as pallbearers were Louie W. Denson, Marvin Dale
Denson, Charles Denson, Merwyn Foster, Kenneth Foster, Carroll Hardin , and
Frank Salmon.

A native and lifelong resident of Houston County, Mr. Denson was born Sept.
27, 1873, son of the late John Denson and Mrs. Susan Bradley Denson. A
member of the Christian church, he engaged in farming and ranching prior to
retiring. He died Monday, March 9, at 5:45 p.m. in a Palestine hospital.
following a short illness.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth Dotson Denson of
Grapeland; four sons, Harvey and Clarence, both of Grapeland, Olen and
Marvin both of Houston; two daughters, Mrs. Webb Salmon of Houston, and
Mrs. Ernest Foster of Grapeland; 15 grandchildren, and 16
great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Mrs. Mertie Lee Denson, 57, of 1011 Mitchell Road,

Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Denson was born at Winters, Texas on February 10, 1910, and died
Wednesday, April 12, in a Houston hospital. She had lived in Houston for
the past 32 years, and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors: husband, John e. Denson of Houston; a son, Johon C. Denson of
Magnolia, Texas; three brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services for Olen Denson, 65 of 904 Jackson, Houston, were held
Wednesday, October 11, at 1:30 p.m. in the Evergreen Chapel, Percilla, and

Weiting officiated.

A retired government employee, Mr. Denson was born in Houston County on
Oct. 3, 1902, and was a son of the late William Edward Denson and Mrs.
Nancy Elizabeth Dotson Denson. He died Monday, Oct. 9, in Houston following
a sudden illness.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Norma Jean Cottrell of Houston; three
brothers, Harvey Denson of Grapland, Marvin an dClarence Denson, both of
Houston; two sistes Mrs. Lottie Salmon of Houston, and Mrs. Ernest Foster
of Grapeland; a grandson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth (Nannie) Denson, 90, of the Mound
City community, Rt. 3, Grapeland, were held Sunday, July 10, at 2 p.m. in
the Evergreen Chapel, Percilla with Rev. W. H. Wieting officiating. Burial
followed in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Denson was born in Houston County on Dec. 4, 1875, and was a daughter
of the late John T. Dotson and Mrs. Elizabeth Sullivan Dotson. Lifelong
member of the Methodist church, she died Friday, July 8, at 7:15p.m. in a
Houston hospital following a short illness. She spent her entire life in
Houston County with the exception of the past year, and was the widow of
William Edward Denson, who died March 9, 1964.

Survivors include four sons, Harvey Denson of Grapeland, Clarence Denson,
Olen Denson and Marvin Denson, all of Houston; two daughters, Mrs. Lottie
Salmon of Houston, and Mrs. Ernest Foster of Grapeland; a brother, Paul
Dotson of Crockett; five sisters, Mrs. Belle Daniels and Mrs. Evel Ferrell,
both of Percilla, Mrs. Lula Franklin of Palestine, Mrs. Flora Robins of
Houston and Mrs. Rettie Henderson of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren.

Mr. John Eldridge Denson, 67, of 1011 Mitchell Road, Houston, died
Wednesday, October 4, in Houston following a long illness.

Graveside services were held Friday, October 6, at 3:00 p.m. at the
Evergreen Cemetery, Percilla, with Calvin Dickey officiating. Burial was in
the Evergreen Cemetery with members of a Masonic Lodge of Houston in
charge. Local arrangements were in Hassell and Foster.

Mr. Denson was born in Grapeland and lived in Houston for the past 49
years.

Survivors: wife, Mrs. Mattie Lou Denson, Houston; mother, Mrs. Fannie L.
Denson, Houston; a son, John C. Denson of Magnolia; two stepsons, Truman
Foster, Rusk and Donnie Joe Foster of Palestine; a sister, Mrs. Harry
Schneider of Houston; a grand daughter, Miss Susan Denson of Magnolia.

Mr. Willie Hayne Denton, 38, of Latexo, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, at his
home.

Mr. Denton was born Jan. 6, 1932 in Houston County. He was a member of the
Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thurdsday in the Latexo Baptist Church
with Rev. C. H. Phifer and Rev. J. B. Kelley officiating. Burial was in the
Latexo Cemetery.

Mr. Harry Hamilton Denton, 76, of Rt. 3, Crockett, died Thursday in
Grapeland Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Denton, a retired farmer, was born Aug. 27, 1892, in Houston County. He
was a member of the Christian Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Latexo Baptist Church,
with Rev. C. H. Phiffer, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was in
the Latexo cemetery.

Pallbearers were Carl Buford, Leon Huff, Jim Best, John Yates, B. Gibbins
and John Kyle.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Warnetter Denton of Crockett; two
daughters, Mrs. Viola Best of Kennard and Mrs. Geraldine Gibbins of Latexo;
a son, Harry Fred Denton of Orange; four sisters, Mrs. Gladys Manville of
Latexo, Mrs. Eula Allbright of Palestine, Mrs. Florence Boedecker of

Mrs. Margaret Jane Derrick

Mrs. Margaret Jane Derrick, 89, of Crockett, died Saturday in a local
nursing home.

Mrs. Derrick, a retired teacher, was born Jan. 27, 1878, in Delta County.
She had taught in Central College in Edmond, Okla., for many years. Mrs.
Derrick was a member of the First Methodist Church of Madill, Okla., and of
the Order of the Eastern Star.

A prayer service was held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with Rev. L. B. Broach officiating, prior to the remains being
taken to Madill, Okla. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in
the First Methodist Church of Madill, with Rev. V. Clinton Purtell, pastor
of the church, officiating. Burial was in the Madill City Cemetery.

Pallbearers include two daughters, Mrs. Roy Petty of Crockett and Mrs. I.
N. Reed of Durant, Okla.; a son, W. S. Derrick of Bartletsville, Okla; five
grandchildren; three great grandchildren.

Donald F. DeSmyter

Mr. Donald F. DeSmyter, 40, died in Detroit, Mich., Thursday, Aug. 8,. He
was a painter, and was born in Detroit July 17, 1923. Mr. DeSmyter was a
veteran of World War II and a member of the Chruch of Christ.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) from the Crockett Church of
Christ at 2 p.m. with Mr. Clyde Strickland, Church of Christ minister,
officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Woodie Woods, Tommie Hunt, Wilford Chrisner, Billy Paul
Blalock, Leon Huff, and Earl Beard.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Jewell Frizzell DeSmyter; two daughters,
Bernice Ann and Donna Jean; aa son, Donald Frank; the parents mr. and Mrs.
Frank DeSmyter; two brothers, Leonard and Carl, all of Detroit.

Mrs. Mary Lee DeWitt, 79, of Crockett, died July 4 in a local hospital,
following a brief illness.

Mrs. DeWitt, a retired real estate agent, was born Jan 13, 1887, in
Crockett. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Crockett.

Funeral services were held from the Callaway Memorial Chapel at 11 a.m.
Tuesday,m with Rev. W. W. Washburn of Waco and Rev. L. B. Broach of
Crockett officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Pat Hoffman, Earl McClain, Phillip McClain, Joe Kennedy,
Roy Skipper and Joe Clounts.

Surviving is a son, Gill H. DeWitt of Houston.

Mrs. Dora Josephine Dial

Mrs. Dora Josephine Dial, 89, of Route 1, Groveton, died Oct. 10, in a
local hospital.

Mrs. Dial was born Aug. 12, 1880, in Trinity County, and was a lifetime
resident of that county. She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Oct. 13 at 10:30a.m. in the Pennington Baptist
Church, with Rev. Noble Lawrence of officiating. Burial was in the
Pennington Cemetery.

Pallbearers were H. R. Money, Paul M. Money, K. B. Stewart, C. H. Stewart,
Russell Richerson, Charles Peel.

Survivors include one son, Rayburn Dial of Pennington; two daughters, Glina
Money and Alma Stewart, both of Houston; two sisters, Ida Walker of
Houston, and Laura Collins of Galvestn; one brother, Grafton Currie of
Hillister; one half-sister, Mrs. Onar Sowell of Lufkin; 14 grandchildren;
43 great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren.

William Dickey Of Percilla Dies

William Daniel Dickey

William Daniel Dickey, 79, of Percilla, died following a long illness at
9:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, in a Crockett hospital. A retired farmer.
Dickey was born in Houston County on may 30, 1878 and lived all his life in
this locality.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 17, at 3 p.m. in the Evergreen
Chapel, near Percilla, with Rev. John Davis and Rev. Bill Walker,
officiating.

Nephews served as pallbearers.

Survivors are two sons, J. C. Dickey and Ed Dickey, both of Palestine; four
daughters, Miss Clara Mae Dickey of Percilla, Mrs. Melvin Adams of
Springtown, Mrs. Darrell Drennan of Grand Prairie, Mrs. J. D. Long of
Porter Springs; two brothers, C. E. Dickey and M. H. Dickey, both of
Palestine; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Funeral Held for Porter Springs Man

Crockett, Feb. 16 (1942) -- Funeral servies for Walter R. Henry, 71, widely known farmer of the Porter Springs community, were held Sunday at the Baptist Church at Porter Springs by Rev. A. S. Lee of Crockett. Burial was in the Porter Springs Cemetery.

A native of Houston County, Mr. Henry had lived his entire life here. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Herman of Huntsville; Forest of Beaumont, Gatewood of Bastrop and John and Walter Henry of Crockett; a sister, Mrs. James Mulligan of Beaumont, and a brother, James Henry of Crockett.

NOTE: For some reason, his five youngest children by his wife Ada Atkinson Henry were not included in the obituary: Norris G. (14), Raymond Leo (12), James William (9), Janice Rensir (3), and Harry Dale (10 months).
 

Willie Margaret Van Hees
Willie Margaret Van Hees was born March 13, 1919, in Ash, Texas, in Houston County to William Herman and Melissa Angeline (Allee) Henry, and passed away Jan. 1, 2008, in Huntsville, Texas. She and her family moved to Huntsville in 1932, where she went on to graduate from Huntsville High School in 1937. She worked the counter at Baldwin’s Cafe during the war years. On Jan. 15, 1945, she married Hartwick Van Hees and to this union two children were born, Dennis Van Hees and Elizabeth Van Hees. Later in life, she managed rental properties for herself and others.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Hartwick Van Hees. Survivors include son, Dennis Van Hees and wife Peggy of Huntsville; daughter, Elizabeth Hollingsworth and husband Tommy of Leander, Texas; and grandchildren, Russell Van Hees of Raymondville, Kaitlyn Van Hees of Huntsville, and Amanda Hollingsworth, William Hollingsworth, and Andrew Hollingsworth, all of Leander. She is also survived by brother, Joe Mac Henry and wife Mamie Dell of Huntsville; sister, Jimmie Dickens and husband Lloyd of Livingston; sister, Bernice Coleman and husband Kenny of Huntsville; sister-in-law, Ila Henry of Cleveland and brother-in-law, Clarence Ham of San Antonio; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Schirmacher officiating. Interment will follow at the Adickes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday Jan. 4, 2008, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The HEARTS Veterans Museum at P.O.
