Mrs. Hattie V. Harper

CROCKETT: Services for Mrs. Hattie V. Harper, 78, at 2:30 p.m. today in
Waller Chapel. Burial in Salem Cemetery. Died Wednesday in Corrigan
Hospital. Member Baptist Church. Survivors: Sons, Robert W. Harper,
Baytown, Hendrick N. Harper, Dallas; daughters, Mrs. Thelma King, Corrigan,
Mrs. Betty Archer, Mrs. Vires Clinton, both of Houston; brother, Guy
Middleton, Weldon; sisters, Mrs. Oma Etheridge, Lovelady, Mrs. Daisy
Anderson, Weldon, Mrs. Della Daniels, Crockett, Mrs. Stella Sump, Giddings;
sever grandchildren.

E. M. Campbell

W. M. Campbell, 84 years of age and for over 60 years a resident of Houston
County, died suddenly Friday afternoon about 2:30 o'clock at the home of his
niece, Mrs. Isbell, in the Arbor community, ten miles southeast of
Crockett. Mr. Campbell's sudden death was believed to have been caused by
heart failure. He was in Crockett Friday morning and the early part of the
same afternoon visiting his many friends here. He complained to several
persons of feeling slightly ill, although he said that he did not think it
was anything serious.

Mr. Campbell was taken home shortly after noon Friday and was sitting on
the porch when he collapsed. He had been talking to several persons who
had passed and told them that he experienced a pecular feeling about his
head. He had just asked his niece for a glass of water. Mrs. Iskell said
she left to get the water and when she returned, Mr. Campbell had
collapsed. It was believed that he was dead when Mrs. Isbell reached him.
The Death was so sudden that no doctor was summoned.

Funeral services were held in the Mount Vernon church Saturday afternoon at
3:00 o'clock and internment followed in the Mount Vernon cemetery, Rev.
Wallace and Rev. Hodge conducted the funeral services, while funeral
arrangements were in charge of C. H. Callaway.

Mr. Campbell was well known in Crockett, where he had a large host of
friends who will mourn his passing. He was born in Holmes County,
Mississippi, in 1847, but came to Texas about sixty-five years ago and
settled in Houston county, where he had resided continuously until his
death. When a young man, he was married to Miss Frances McCombs, who
preceded him in death two years ago. He was a Confederate veteran, having
served the South during the Civil War. He united with the Baptist church in
early childhood and was a consistent member of the church until his death.
He served a superintendent of his home Sunday school for thirty-five years.

Surviving the deceased are his brother, Dave W. Campbell of Austin; one
sister, Mrs. Susie McCombs of Weldon; a niece, Mrs. C. B. Isbell, of
Arbor, and numerous other relatives in Houston County.

Saturday Rites For

Clyde Davis

Funeral services for Clyde Davis, 85, of Grapeland, were held Saturday,
April 28, at 11:00 a.m. in the First Christian Church, Grapeland, with Dr.
R. L. Badgett officiating. Burial was in the Grapeland City Cemetery under
the direction of Hassell & Foster.

Nephews served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Davis was born September 6, 1887 in Grapeland to the late E. W. Davis
and Mrs. Lucinda Sheridan Davis, and he died Thursday, April 26, at 2:30
a.m. in the Crockett hospital following a long illness. Prior to retiring
in 1954, he worked for many years for Missouri Pacific Railroad. he first
started for Missouri Pacific as a telegraph operator at the age of 18 in
Grapeland, and was in the accounting department at the time he retired.
During World War I, he served in the Signal Corps of the U. S. Army. He was
a member of the First Christian Church, Grapeland, a Masonic Lodge of
Houston, V. F. W. Post #3907 of Palestine, and the Brotherhood of Railway
and Steamship Clerks. Prior to moving back to Grapeland and Crockett, he
was a resident of the O'Neill Hotel, Palestine.

Survivors: two brothers, Edwin W. Davis of Robstown, and Leroy Davis of
Woodville; three sisters, Mrs. J. B. (Adelle) Zimmerman of Odessa, Mrs.
Eula Mae Trigg and Mrs. Henry (Winnie) Newman, both of Grapeland; numerous
nieces and nephews.

Samuel Falcon Davis

Mr. Samuel Falcon Davis, 89, of Pennington, passed away early Saturday
morning. May 19, in the Houston County Hospital.

Mr. Davis was born in Trinity County on Aug. 18, 1883, and had lived there
for his entire lifetime. He was a member of the Methodist church.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 4:30 p.m. in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel with Rev. Rascoe Wells officiating. Interment was in the Hill
Cemetery near Pennington.

Pallbearers were James Davis, Jimmy Davis, Martin Davis, Donald Davis,
David Davis, Harmon Davis and Sam Davis.

Survivors include four sons, Ralph, Hulon and Cleon Davis, all of
Pennington. Oren Davis of Houston; one brother, Fred Davis of Kennard; nine
grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were under the direction of Callaway Funeral Home of Crockett.

Olian Edward Davis

Mr. Olian Edward Davis, 67, of Rt. 2 Trinity, passed away Tuesday, June 12,
in the V. A. Hospital in Houston.

Mr. Davis was a lifelong resident of Trinity County, a member of the
Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II.

Graveside services were held Thursday, June 14, at 2 p.m. in the thornton
Cemetery with Rev. Mark M. Ellis officiating.

Survivors include one brother, William C. Davis of Seminole, Florida; one
sister, Miss Willie J. Davis of Glendale, Texas; several nieces and
nephews.

Mrs. Mamie Davis

Mrs. Mamie Davis, 65, of Pennington died in a local hospital Monday. Mrs.
Davis was a lifelong resident of Trinity County and a member of the
Pennington Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3 p.m. from the Pennington Baptist
Church, With Revs. A. .W. Ludlow, E. P. Coe and Gail Hogg officiating.
Burial was in the Mount Vernon Cemetery, near Ratcliff.

Survivors include the husband, Ben Davis of Pennington; a daughter, Mrs.
Norris Benton of Crockett; two brothers, J. T. Rice of Lufkin and N. D.
Rice of Kountze; two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Collins of Lufkin and Miss Hewell
Rice of Cleveland; two grandsons, a great grandchild and several nieces
and nephews.

Billy Lynn Davis

Funeral services for Billy Lynn Davis, 46, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday
in the Waller Family Chapel.

Rev. W. F. Hughes officiated. Burial was in the Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Davis, a resident of Shepard, died Sept. 18 in Freeport. He was born
July 11, 1928 in Leon County and was a seaman. He was a veteran of the
Korean War.

Survivors include his father, Olan Davis of Riverside; two brothers,
Greenwood Davis of Merrill, Wis., and Larry Gene Davis of Houston.

Also, three sisters, Mrs. Emma Tilley of Shepard, Mrs. Freda Tucker of
Tucson, Ariz., and Miss Cecile E. Davis of Crockett.

Randy Currey

Randy Currey, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Currey , of Dallas, died
Dec. 23.

Other survivors besides the parents are one sister, Becky Cooper; and
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Holcomb of Crockett and Mr. and Mrs. Roy L.
Currey of Mart, Texas.

Burial was in the Mart Cemetery.

John C. Young

Mr. John C. Young, vice president of Texas Power and Light Company, died
unexpectedly at his home in Dallas Monday night, Dec. 26, after a heart
attack.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Restland
Funeral Home in Dallas.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Loretta Young; a daughter, Mrs. J. S.
Farrington of Midland; a son, John Jr., of Dallas; his father, J. Albert
Young of Dallas; two brothers, J. Albert Jr., of Waco, and Dr. Harvey Young
of Washington, D. C.; and two sisters, Mrs. Vern Rohrer of Ft. Woth, and
Mrs. Leslei Cooper of Dallas.

Mr. Young had been with Texas Power and Light for 38 years. He was in
charge of the company's division and district managers of their
organizations.

Dennis Larry McClain

Dennis Larry McClain, one-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. James Larry McClain
of Kennard, died Tuesday, Dec 27, of an accidental gunshot wound.

The youngster was being dressed when a 22 pistol on the dresser was pulled
or knocked to the floor and discharged. The bullet struck the boy in the
chest.

Born on Feb. 14, 1959, in Crockett, the child is survived by, in addition
to his parents, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. O. H. McClain of Ratcliff,
Mrs. Marie English of Kennard, and Deb Hill of Kennard.

Funeral services were held at the Kennard Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec 28, with the pastor, the Rev. Frank Oswald, officiating.
Interment was in the Ivie Cemetery near Kennard.

Mrs. Countess Irene Hayes

Mrs. Countess Irene Hayes, 49, of Crockett, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, in
the Whitehall Nursing Home hollowing a long illness.

Mrs. Hayes was a lifelong resident of Houston County and was a member of
the Pentecostal Church of Weches.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 26, at 2 p.m. in the Waller
Chapel, with Rev. R. J. Rodgers and Rev. Westberry officiating. Burial was
in the Weches Cemetery.

Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Gussie Bobbitt of Crockett; two sons, K.
A. Hayes of Grapeland and Frank Hayes of Crockett; three brothers, Max and
Jimmy Bobbitt, both of Houston, and Vernon Bobbitt of Austin; two sisters,
Mrs. Arline DeBattista of New Jersey and Mrs. Carline Jacobs of Houston;

Mrs. Bunnye Satterwhite Hallmark, 76, of 113 West Goliad, Crockett, passed
away Sunday, Dec. 23, in Houston.

Mrs. Hallmark was born May 31, 1897 in Houston County, and was a member of
the Central Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 24, in the Callaway
Memorial Chapel, with Rev. John Barnes of the Central Baptist Church,
officiating. Burial was in the Sahdy Grove cemetery.

Pallbearers were C. B. Saxon, Monroe Woolley, Jamie Satterwhite, Travis
Satterwhite, Travis Satterwhite, Wadell Shipper and George Lee Harrison.

Mr. Ralph Madison Hilton, 76, of Kennard, passed away Thursday, Nov. 25, in
a local hospital.

Mr. Hilton had resided in Kennard for the past six years. He was a member
of the Baptist Church, and of Caltharp Lodge No. 419 AF & Am.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Waller Chapel, with
Rev. Frank Oswald officiating. Interment was in the Chita Cemetery, under
the auspices of Caltharp Lodge No. 419.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Ralph Hilton of Kennard; three sons, Dale
Hilton of Dallas, Forest Hilton of Trinity and Ralph Hilton Jr., of
Riverside, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Troy Shaw of Dallas; two brothers,

Mrs. Audrey F. Millican, 32, of Austonio passed away in Houston Tuesday,
May 15.

Mrs. Millican was a member of the Baptist Chruch and had lived in Houston
County all of her life.

Mrs. Mary Kathryne May, 58, of 1001 East Bowie, Crockett, passed away
Wednesday, May 16, in Beaumont, Texas.

Mrs. May was born in Longville, Louisiana, but had lived in Houston County
almost her entire lifetime. She was a member of the Baptist chruch.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Friday, May 18, in the Waller Chapel,
with Rev. E. P. Ramsey officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Memorial
Park.

Survivors include the husband, Leonard May, Crockett; a son, Eugene May,

Mr. Freddy W. Davis, 18, of Rt. 2, Kennard, died Saturday night as a result
of a hunting accident.

Freddy was born in Harris County on Sept. 26, 1953, but had lived in
Kennard for a number of years and attended Kennard High School. He was a
member of the Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Monday in the Ivie Missionary Baptist
Church, with Rev. J. C. Thomas and Rev. Harold Ward officiating. Interment
was in the Ivie Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Obie Currie, Beau Parrish, Johnnie Burson, Philip Garham,
Tommy Taylor and Junior Bennett.

Mr. Archie Currie, 81, of Kennard, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 1, in
the Houston County Hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Currie was born in Houston County Jan. 9, 1892, and had lived here for
his entire lifetime. He was a member of the Kennard Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan, 2, at 2 p.m. in the Kennard
Baptist Church with the pastor, Rev. Frank Oswald officiating. Interment
was in the Mount Vernon cemetery.

Maurice Stowe

Mr. Maurice Stowe, 41, of 103 Bonham Ave. Crockett, died suddenly Saturday
afternoon.

Mr. Stowe was born Jan. 9, 1930, in Houston County and had lived here his
entire lifetime. He was a member of the Baptist Church and a veteran of
Korean Conflict.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with Rev. Novle Lawrence officiating. Interment was in the
Guiceland cemetery, north of Grapeland.

Pallbearers were Mack Rhone, Jack Hicks, Wallace Dunn, W. M. Oates, Harold
Toms, and J. D. Oates.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Margie Ruth Stowe of Crockett; two
daughters, Ruth Ann and Cathy Lynn Stowe, both of Crockett; two sons, Joe
Morris and High Brett Stowe, brother of Crockett; a half-brother, Harvey Lee
Stowe of Houston; and a foster-mother, Mrs. Minnie Thames of Crockett.

Mrs. Maple Irene Smith, 62, of 908 Bowie, Crockett, died Saturday night in
the Crockett hospital.

Mrs. Smith ws born in Houston County on Nov. 8, 1909, and had lived in
Crockett for the past three years. She was a member of Riverside Baptist
Church of Houston.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with Rev. Noble Lawrence and Sister Lola Lane officiating.
Interment was in the Pennington Cemetery.

Pallbearers wre Gary Magee, Ernest Magee, Sallie Magee, Alvin Lane, Trop
Holmes and Clint Padgett.

Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Minnie Whitehead of Crockett; two
sisters, Mrs. Cliff Nash of Houston and Mrs. Laverne Arnold of Crockett;
two nieces and one great niece.

Mr. E. C. (Elzie) Smith, 99, of Weches, passed away Monday, Dec., 31, in the
Houston County hospital.

Mr. Smith was born in Weches Jan. 10 ,1874 of which in 11 days he would
have been 100 years old). He was a retired farmer and a member of the
Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 2, in the Weches
Baptist Church with Rev. R. J. Rodgers officiating. Burial was in the
Weches Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Lelon Smith of Weches and John Smtih of
Trinity; one daughter, Mrs. Electra Anderson of Weches; five grandchildren;
12 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; several nieces and
nephews.

Mr. George Frank Johnson, 75, of Crockett, passed away Wednesday, Nov 24,
in a local hospital.

Mr. Johnson, a retired rancher, was a lifetime resident of Crockett. He
was a member of the Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Waller Chapel, with
Rev. T. M. Brown officiating. Interments was in the New Energy Cemetery.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Miriam Johnson of Crockett; a son, W. T.
Johnson of Crockett; a daughter, Mrs. Willie Ashmore of Belott; two
brothers, Clifford Johnson of Cleburne and John Miller of Roswell, N..M.;
three sisters, Mrs. Carie Gray of Cleburne, Mrs. Willie Driskell of Turkey

26, in Lufkin.

Chapel with Rev. Van Westberry and Rev. Roy Le Bobbitt officiating.
Interment followed in the Weches Cemetery.

Mr. LeRoy M. Goode, 71, of Houston, passed away in a Pasadena Hospital
Monday, Dec.17.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. David Tullos were held at 3 p.m. Monday,
Dec 31, in the Antioch Cemetery in Ratcliff.

Mr. Tullos passed away in Houston Friday, Dec 28.

James E. Simmons

Mr. James E. (Jimmy) Simmons, 60, of Hamlin died in Hamlin Memorial
Hospital July 23, following a heart attack. Born near Crockett and the son
of the late Mr. and Mrs . John Simmons, the deceased had lived since 1930
at Hamlin, where he was a barber, and a member of the Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Thursday from the First Baptist Church
of Hamlin, with Rev. Lenard Hartley and G. W. Turner of New Mexico
officiating. Burial was in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Camille Simmons of Hamlin; a brother, A.

Mrs. Nellie Mae Buchanan

Mrs. Nellie Mae Buchanan, 64, died Monday afternoon at her home in
Crockett. A lifelong resident of Houston County, Mrs. Buchanan was a member
of the Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Waller Funeral Home
Chapel, with Rev. E. P. Ramsey officiating. Burial was in Evergreen
Memorial Park.

Survivors include the husband, Wade Buchanan of Crockett; a daughter, Mrs.
Charles Falkenhagen of Galveston; five brothers, Smith Baughman of
Crockett, D. W. Baughman of Crockett, C. W., C. M., and A. . Baughman, all
of Houston ; two sisters, Mrs. M. M. Cook of Houston and Mrs. J. E. Eiland
of Morgan City; a grand-daughter, Miss Gail Falkenhagen of Galveston; a
number of nieces and nephews.

Waller Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Carl H. Bunn

Mr. Carl H. Bunn, 66, of Crockett died Thursday night in a local hospital.
Mr. Bunn was a distributor for Borden Milk Co. in Houston, and in recent
years in Houston County. He also engaged in ranching. He was a member of
the Methodist Church and of the American Legion, he having served in the
air service in World War I. He was a native of Rockwall County.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Waller Funeral
Home Chapel, with Rev. Jewell Strong officiating. Burial waws in Evergreen,
Memorial Park.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Carl H. Bunn of Crockett; a brother, N. H.
Bunn of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Woods of Dallas and Mrs. John
Mindiviny of Pecos; several nieces and nephews.

Waller Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bert Kelly

Funeral services for Bert Kelly, 71, of Houston, were held Thursday, July
25, at 2 p.m. in the Percilla Methodist Church with Calvin Dickey
officiating. Burial followed in the Davis Cemetery east of Grapeland.

A native of Latexo, Mr. Kelly was born on Feb. 9, 1892. Prior to retiring,
he farmed in the Percilla area for a number of years, and lived in both
Grapeland and Crockett before moving to Houston. He died Tuesday, July 23,
at 7:10 a. m. in a HOuston Hospital, following a long illness. He was a
member of the Faith Memorial Baptist Church in Houston.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Immogene Musick Kelly of Houston a
daughter, Mrs. Charles Skidmore of Grapeland; four grandchildren, Misses
Betty, Charlene and Rita Skidmore and Keith Skidmore, all of Grapeland; a
brother, Walter Kelly of Houston; a half-brother, C. A. Mills of Crockett;
several nieces and nephews.
