Elvin Carlton Gibson
Mr. Elvin Carlton Gibson, 61, of Houston, died in that city Tuesday. Mr.
Gibson was a member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at 2 p.m. Thursday in the
Waller Chapel, with the Rev. J. V. Lewis and the Rev. J. T. Williams
officiating. Burial will be in the Hill Cemetery. Survivors include the
widow, Mrs. Oma Dell Gibson of Houston; two sons, Terry and Gerald
Gibson, both of Houston; two brothers, Jack Gibson of Crockett and Henry
Gibson of Kennard; three sisters, Mrs. Jimmy Troutman and Mrs. Lena
Bruce, both o Kennard, and Mrs. Grace Gunnels of Crockett; three
grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews. Waller Funeral Home is

Mrs. Lula Mae Gibson
Mrs. Lula Mae Gibson, 63, of Crockett, passed away Sunday morning, Sept.
10, in a local hospital. Mrs. Gibson was born on April 6, 1909, in
Houston County, and was a lifelong resident of this county. She was a
member of the Ivie Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m.
Monday in the Callaway Memorial Chapel, with Rev. E. D. Sarratt
officiating. Interment was in the Ivie Cemetery, near Kennard.
Pallbearers were Robin Coppedge, Dudley Pyle, James Gunnels, Arlon
Gunnels, Jim Selman and James Thomas, Survivors include the husband,
Louis Jackson Gibson of Crockett; three daughters, Mrs. Paul May of
Crockett, Mrs. Boyce Gilbert of Houston and Mrs. Harvey Suttle Jr. of
Nineveh; two sons, Jack Gibson Jr. of Cypress and Lonnell Gibson of
Houston; five sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Selman, Mrs. Rosie Selman, and Mrs.
Thelma Munzinger, all of Crockett, Mrs. Gertie McGuire of Elkhart and
Miss Helen Hale of Dallas; two brothers, John Hale of Crockett and Cecil
Hale of Houston; her mother, Mrs. Tallie Hale of Crockett; and 14

Funeral services for Henry Edward Gibson, 70, were held at 2 p.m. Feb.
12 in the Callaway Memorial Chapel. Rev. James Stuckey and Rev. E. D.
Sarratt officiated. Burial was in the Ivie Cemetery. Mr. Gibson, a
resident of Kennard, died Feb. 11 in Houston County Hospital. He was
born Jan. 11, 1905 in Oklahoma and had lived in Houston County since
1930. He was a member of the Ivie Church. Survivors include his widow,
Mrs. Myrtie Gibson of Kennard; a son. Melvin Gibson of Freeport; two
daughters, Mrs. Bettie Tilley of Crockett and Mrs. Ruth Pyle of Kennard,
a brother, Jack Gibson of Crockett. Also, three sisters, Mrs. Jimmie
Troutman and Mrs. Lena Bruce, both of Kennard, and Mrs. Grace Gunnels of

Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine Gilbert, 70, of Rt. 1, Crockett,
were held at 2 p.m. Sunday Jan. 1, in the Pentecostal Church at Weches.

Freddie Ray Gilbreath, Jr., 3-day-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Ray
Gilbreath of Dickinson, died Tuesday, Jan 6, in a Crockett hospital.
Graveside services were held at the English Cemetery at 11 a.m. Friday,
Jan 7, with the Rev. Don Austin officiating. Survivors, besides the
parents, are the grandparents, Ray Gilbreath of Dickinson, Mrs. Hazel
Martin of Houston, and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Martin of Houston; and

Rites Held For Giles Infant Sherry Lynn Giles Funeral services for
little Sherry Lynn Giles, 2 months, of Route 6, Box 131A, Palestine,
(Montalba) were held Sunday, October 20, at 2:30 p.m. in Hassell &
Foster Chapel, Palestine, with the Rev. Theo Johnson officiating. Burial
was in Roselawn Park, Palestine. Pallbearers were Roger Vance, Veri
Vance, Glenn White, and Bill Kubin. Sherry Lynn was born August 9, 1974
in Palestine in James Ralph Giles and Judy Ann Parker Giles, and she
died Friday afternoon in her home following a sudden illness. In
addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. L. V. Giles, Montalba, and Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Parker of Houston;
great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Vest of Grapeland, and Mrs. Nora
Parker of Crockett; a brother, James R. Giles Jr. of Montalba.

Marcus Edward Giller
Funeral services for Marcus Edward Giller, 71, of Route 3, Grapeland,
were held Thursday, February 27, at 4:00 p.m. in the Church of Christ,
Grapeland, with James W. Mosley officiating. Burial was in the
Livelyville Cemetery, near Grapeland, under the direction of Hassell &
Foster. Pallbearers: Floyd Salmon, Clean Salmon, G. W. Marshall, Herman
Earl Owens, Homer martin and Don Giller. Mr. Giller was born in Illinois
on June 7, 1903, a son of Frank and Ida R. Giller and he died Wednesday,
February 26,, at 2:15 p.m. in a Grapeland hospital following a brief
illness. A retired farmer, he had resided at Route 3, Grapeland for the
past year. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Mary Belle
Pennington Giller, on July 1, 1953. Survivors: mother, Mrs. Ida Giller,
Pearsall; a daughter, Mrs. G. W. (Marcellee) Ivey of Houston; a brother,
Francis Giller, Pearsall; a sister-in-law, Mrs. H. L. Masters of
Grapeland.

Mrs. Bryant (Ola C.) Gilmore
Mrs. Bryant (Ola C.) Gilmore, of Route 3, Grapeland, died Friday, July
14, in Memorial Hospital at the age of 79. Funeral services were held at
2 p.m. Sunday in the Slocum United Methodist Church with the Rev. John
Barfield officiating. Burial followed in the Strong Memorial Park.
Pallbearers for the funeral were E. W. Monk, Thomas T. Wright, George F.
Clark, Jr., Roy Corley, Kerby Smith, Raymond Tillman, LaVaughan Mixon,
Pace McDonald III, Jack Franke and Elward Kendall Alford. Mrs. Gilmore
was a native and lifelong resident of Anderson County and a member of
the Slocum United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband,
Bryant Gilmore; two sons, Raymond Filmore of Nacogdoches and Grady
Gilmore of Slocum; two daughters, Mrs. E. B. Alford of Palestine and
Mrs. Arthur Averitte of Slocum; six grandchildren; five brothers, Martin
Hassell, Leonard Hassell, Forest Hassell and Clarence Hassell, all of
Rusk, and Will Hassell of Alto; and two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Sullivan of
Killeen and Mrs. Annie Mae Moseley of Rusk.

resident of Timpson, died Dec. 5 in a Shreveport, La. hospital. He was
born Oct. 18, 1933 in Houston County and was a member of the Baptist

step-children; his mother, Mrs. Bessie Gilson of Latexo; a sister, Mrs.

Mrs. Mary E. Gimon, 73, of Lovelady, died Wednesday, June 12, in a
Crockett hospital. Mrs. Gimon was a retired postmaster of Lovelady, she
having served in that capacity more than 16 years. She as born March 12,
1895, in Houston County, and was a member of the Lovelady Church of
Christ. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Lovelady
Church of Christ, with Mr. Dayton Lee of Trinity and Mr. George McKinney
of Crockett officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Lovelady.
Pallbearers were Sidney Smith, Raymond Trimble, Wayne Linton, Sammie
Parrish, B. N. Linton and T. L. Moffitt. Survivors include the husband,
Milton E. Gimon of Lovelady; a brother, Jim Click of Lovelady; several

Mr. Milton Ennis Gimon, 77, of Lovelady, died Monday, Oct. 23 in the
Houston County Hospital. Mr. Gimon, a retired Gulf service station owner
and operator, was born May 19, 1895, in Houston County. He was a member
of Lovelady Church of Christ, and of Lovelady Masonic Lodge No. 539.
Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, in the Lovelady
Church of Christ, with Mr. H. H. Conner and Mr. E. A. Richie
officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery at Lovelady.
Pallbearers were Pete Wells, Ben Gayle, Horace Bartee, Cecil Roe, E. J.

Mrs. Mildred Durst Giraud died May 9 in Rome, Italy. Mrs. Giraud, a
native of Calvert, lived in Houston many years before moving to Rome 15
years ago. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Trinity
Episcopal Church in Houston, with Rev. Arthur S. Knapp officiating.
Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Pauline
Moore of Crockett; two nieces, Mrs. Louise Lansford of Fort Worth and
Mrs. Estelle Markham of Houston; and several cousins.

Mrs. Mabel C. Gladden, 78, of Borger, died early Saturday morning. Mrs.
Gladden was born in Rusk County, but had lived in Houston County most of
her life. She was a member of the Austonio Baptist Church. Funeral
services were at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Austonio Baptist Church with the
Rev. Joe Gilchriest officiating. Burial was in the Laneville Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Boyd Stephens of Borger; a brother,

Mr. James Wilson Gladden, 83, of Route 2, Crockett, died Saturday
morning in a local hospital. Born in Alto, Mr. Gladden had resided in

in the Austonio Baptist Church, with Rev. Phillips and Rev. Bob Owens

Mrs. Cora Ann Glazier, 87, died at her late residence near Lovelady
Thursday, following a lengthy illness. She was born Dec. 19, 1873, at
Camden, Ark. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Funeral services
were held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Callaway Memorial Chapel, with
Rev. J. B. Davis of Grapeland and Mr. Dalton Groves, Church of Christ
minister of Lovelady, officiating. Burial was in Lovelady Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bobby J. Stewart, Mack Stewart, James R. Stewart Jr.,
Paul Fulton, Troy Pinner and B. G. Stewart. Survivors include two sons,
John Glazier of Lovelady and Robert Glazier of Oakland, Calif.; one
daughter, Mrs. J. R. Stewart of Houston; two sisters, Mrs. Selina
Jackson of Rosharon and Mrs. Henry Plunkett of Fort Worth; eight

Mrs. Pearl Beatrice Gleffe, 63, died in Green Bay Wisconsin, Wednesday,
November 21. A native of Weldon, Mrs. Gleffe had lived in Green Bay 16
years and was a member of the Baptist Church. Funeral services were held
from the Waller Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Sunday with Mr. Dalton
Graves officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Lovelady.
Survivors include the husband, Clarence Gleffe of Green Bay, Wisconsin;
two daughters Mrs. Jean Mallory of Denver, Colorado and Mrs. Dick Vale

in Crockett for several years. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m.

Funeral services for Andy J. Goff, 75, of Slocum (Rt.2,Elkhart), were
held Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 3 p.m. in the Muse Baptist Church, Hickory
Grove, with the Rev. W. C. Littleton officiating. Burial was in the Muse
Cemetery. Arrangements were by Hassell & Foster. Nephews served as
pallbearers. Mr. Goff was born March 26, 1894 in the Denson Springs
community, and was a son of the late Henry Clay Goff and Mrs. Finecia
Reed Goff. He died Tuesday, Oct 21, at 8 a.m. in the home of his
brother, Van B. Goff, near Round Rock, Texas. He was reared at Denson
Springs, and farmed at Hickory Grove a number of years. After retiring,
he moved to Slocum, and was a member of the Slocum Baptist Church.
Survivors: wife, Mrs. Carrie Cooper Goff of Slocum; a daughter, Mrs. Coy
W. (Loretta) Miles of Houston; four brothers, Earon N. Goff of Rusk, Van
B. Goff of Leander, Clarence G. Goff of Palestine, and L. D. Goff of
Rockdale; two sisters, Mrs. Flora Johnston and Mrs. Carlton Lively, both
or Grapeland; two grandchildren, James Miles and Miss Margie Miles, both
of Houston; a number of nieces and nephews.

James Clayton Goodman
Funeral services for James Clayton Goodman, seven-year-old son of Mr.
and Mrs. George Goodman of Crockett, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in

the Evergreen Memorial Park. The youth died Monday as the result of
being struck by an automobile as he departed from a school bus near his
home on Texas 19 south. He was a second grade student at the Sam Houston
Elementary School and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors

Paul Goodman of Crockett; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Rose Goodman of

Mr. Leo Bergman Goodrum, 78, of Box 282, Weldon, died early Wednesday,

services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with Rev. Walter Byers and Rev. John Goodrum officiating.
Interment was in the Weldon Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roland Goodrum,
Willard Johnson Jr., Kenny Johnson, Craig Hawthorne, Chris Phillips and
Randall Maples. Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Evelyn Goodrum of
Weldon; a daughter, Mrs. Annie Johnson of Hearne; three sons, Leon R.
and Earl B. Goodrum, both of Houston; and Basil Goodrum of the U. S.
Army; three sisters, Ida Clements, Stacia Reed, and Becky Harrelson, all
of Huntsville; two brothers, John Robert and Lon Goodrum, both of
Houston; 16 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Callaway Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sarah Janie Goodson
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Janie Goodson, 85, of 9426 Laney Vale
Avenue, Dallas, former Houston County resident, were held Friday, Feb.
5, at the graveside in Parker Cemetery with Rev. Raymond Craig
officiating. Burial was in Parker Cemetery. Grandsons and nephews served
as pallbearers. A native of Texarkana, Arkansas, Mrs. Goodson was born
Dec. 19, 1874. She died in a Texarkana hospital Tuesday, Feb 2, at 5:30
p.m. following a short illness. Survivors: two sons, Clyde V. Goodson of
Texarkana, Arkansas; a daughter, Mrs. Othella Stephens of Timpson, Texas;
two brothers, Jim and Dakery Peavy of Fort Worth; 22 grandchildren and a
number of great grandchildren. Remains were brought to Hassell & Foster,
Grapeland, Friday morning and were there until carried to the cemetery
for graveside services.

Cleet E. Goodson
Mr. Cleet E. Goodson, 78, of Kennard died Monday in a Lufkin hospital.
Mr. Goodson was a lifelong resident of Houston County. He was a member
of the Methodist Church. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday
in the Ivie Church, with Rev. L. B. Broach officiating. Burial was in
the Ivie Cemetery. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Dona Lee Goodson of
Kennard; a brother, Willie Goodson of Kennard; two sisters, Mrs. Cora
Gates of Kennard and Mrs. Lucy Causlet of Maydelle; three grandchildren
and four great grandchildren. Waller Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
