LEE WASHINGTON CEMETERY

Mrs. I. J. Nichols 'found' and recorded this cemetery for the 1978 publication as a 'small' cemetery located in the northwestern
county sector on the Lee Washington property. To find evidences of it, travel west from Grapeland on FM-227, taking FM-2544 at the fork for a total of 15 miles near the present McCall farm.

Many of the Washington were buried here, though few headstones remain, only stones. One legible tombstone which still remains is for:

Lee 'Cornbread' Washington.

The rock nearby is presumed to be the gravesite of his wife.
