Roland Snead Dodson, Petty Officer Third Class (Radioman), trained at Harvard University and served aboard the USS Missouri in the U. S. Navy during WWI.

He was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the National Guard in 1932, and served as 2nd in Command and later Commanding Officer of the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp at Ratcliff from 1936-1941, at which time he was called to WWII and served as Post Signal Officer at Camp Swift, TX., for the duration of the war. After being discharged, he was recalled and served
in the Korean War in years 1948-1949. He was honorably discharged as Major, U. S. Army Signal Corps and retired from active
military service at that time.

He ranched and farmed into the mid 1960s and became the first Director of the Crockett Housing Authority, leaving that position in the late 1970s. He entered full retirement and died 12 days before his 82nd birthday.

He now rests on the Rusty "D" Rancho, beside his beloved Holly Tree, which he described as the "largest holly tree in Texas", 71/2 miles north of Crockett, off FM-2663.

"Cap" Dodson was born in Crawford County, Ark., July 13, 1899; and died at Scott-White Hospital, Temple, July 1, 1981.
