DOUGLAS/DOUGLASS FAMILY CEMETERY

Directions to Cemetery from Lovelady, Tx.: Take Weldon Rd. FM 230. Go W. approximately 7.4 Mi. At a 76 UNION OIL sign, turn Rt. on FM 2915. Go approximately 6 Mi. to the top of a red clay hill where the enclosure is marked by the Cemetery Sign on the Rt. This is a well-kept Cemetery.

 

This information for the 1st Edition was submitted by Mrs. Leland Little in 1977 Directions to Cemetery from Mapleton, TX:  On St. Hwy. 21 at Mapleton, turn SW and go approximately 5 Mi to Cemetery Sign on left.

Four acres of land for the Cemetery was donated and deeded to the Douglas/ Douglass Family by John Daniel Douglass in 1864, at the time of his first wife's death, same being Rebecca Jane Houston Spillers Douglass, and she is the first person known to be buried here. She was a niece of Gen. Sam Houston. This information submitted by Frances Scott Davidson of Crockett, TX, assisted by Mrs. Ruth McDougald for the 1st Edition in 1977.   Sometime around 1963, a son of John Daniels, Richard B. (Dick) Douglass, deeded 1/2 acre of land to Mexicans from the Murray Farm for their use to bury their dead. Many unidentified graves are outside the enclosure in the woods and underbrush.
 

The 1982 Census was taken by Mrs. Louise Fulsom, Mrs. Gladys Harrington, Mrs. Elnora Hollingsworth, Mrs. Leland Little, and Mrs. Wilmer Little.  Updated for the 3rd Edition in June 1985 by Louise Fulsom; Frances Davidson and Gertrude Standley, daughters of Emma Lee Douglass Standley Scott.  Further checked and additions made June 24, 1986 by J. B. & Syble Gresham of Crockett, TX to clarify some queries before publication of the 3rd Edition.
