BOWDOIN CEMETERY
This old family cemetery is located west from Porter Springs on the James L.
Gossett Survey. It was established by Mrs. Martha A. Bowdoin (also Bowdon)
who purchased 500 acres of the League from Elisha and William Clapp for
$2000 in gold (HCDR-Book S/page 164; also Book 200/page 174). Mrs. Darden
Welsh, daughter of R. K. Bowdoin updated the previous readings of the family
burial ground which had been made in 1970 by Dorothy Hawk; verified by Eliza
Bishop for second edition and present one.
