George Brinson Lundy
was born August 3, 1844 in Randolph Co., GA. After
living a short time in the States of Florida and Mississippi, he
moved with his father's family to Texas in 1857 and settled near
Moscow, in Polk County. On May 5th, 1862, he enlisted in
the Confederate Army and became a member of Hood's famous
brigade and served during the entire period of the war, except
when being treated for a wound in the leg that almost proved
fatal. He was with General Lee at Appomattox and witnessed
the surrender of his leader. He died December 27,
1915. He is buried in the Glenwood Cemetery, Crockett,
Houston Co., TX. His headstone reads "Hood's Brigade CSA,
Mason". He is buried next to his second wife, Sallie
Morris Worthington. She was born August 9, 1852 and died
September 13, 1941.
He was an elder in the First Presbyterian
Church of Crockett (also known as the Tenney Memorial Church),
where he served until his death.
He was married in 1867 to
Mary Worthington. They had
the following children:
1. Ralph G. Lundy
2. Ione Lundy
3. William Q. Lundy
After the death of his first wife, he married
Mrs. Sallie M. Daniel, daughter of
Judge Samuel M. Thompson. She was the sister of Mrs. Dolly
Worthington, wife of William Branch Worthington, who was a
brother of George's first wife.
George Lundy and Mrs. Sallie Daniels married
January 16, 1887 at Neville's Prairie but about 1895
George Lundy moved his family into the city of Crockett.
After moving into Crockett George worked for a grain company in
Galveston, TX. About a year later he and Thomas "Tom"
Thompson, his brother-in-law, opened the mercantile firm of
Lundy and Thompson in Crockett. George Lundy worked there
until his death Dec. 27, 1915.
No children were born to his second marriage
but the 1900 census lists Sallie D. Hardin as adopted daughter.
