Marian Foster (left) shared the traditional Foster family birthday cake recipe and for the Texas bicentennial celebration on June 12, 1976, baked a five-layer caramel pecan birthday cake. 

A lucky county family enjoyed a sweet treat and the Commission's treasury was sweetened, too.

Sister Alice, pictured at the right, parleyed the financial returns into more than a 200th celebration
