Alsobrooks, Wright, Simms and Thomas Connection(s)
Mr. Timothy Alsobrooks was the eldest son of Mr. Nathan E. Alsobrooks and Mrs. Mattie Towles - Alsobrooks both of the state of Alabama. Mr. Timothy Alsobrooks was born in Franklin County, Texas on Wednesday, the 10th of September in 1879. Mr. Timothy Alsobrooks married Ms. Claudia Wright on Wednesday the 2nd, of July in 1902. Claudia is the daughter of Mr. Andrew and Mrs. Amanda Slater - Wright where native Texans. Claudia had a sister named Ms. Libbie Wright. Ms. Libbie Wright was born on Tuesday, the 19th of March in 1895. According to the 1900 United States Federal Census the Wright Family resided in Justice Precinct 2 (Southern Part) of Hopkins County, Texas. Ms. Libbie Wright married Mr. Noel Simms on the first Wednesday, following Thanksgiving, on the 29th of November in 1916. Mr. Noel Simms was born on Sunday, the 11th of July in 1893. Mr. Noel Simms is the second son of Mr. William Simms and Mrs. Maryetta Simms both where native Texans. The Simms resided in Justice Precinct 3 called Reily Springs Town, in Hopkins County, Texas. Mr. Simms’ sister Ms. Kelsia Mary Ann Simms married Mr. Lester Thomas Sr. on Friday, the 9th of October in 1914. This marriage was prior to the Ms. Libbie Wright to Mr. Noel Simms. Mr. Lester Thomas Sr. was born on Thursday, the 17th of December in 1891. Mr. Lester was the son of Mr. Milton Thomas of Arkansas and Mrs. Mary Hess – Thomas of Texas. Mr. Nathan E. Alsobrooks first wife was Mattie Towels-Alsobrooks of Alabama. Her parents were Mr. Golden Towels of the state of Georgia & Mrs. Lucy Towels of the state of South Carolina. Mr. Golden Towels was born in the month of March in the year 1826. Mrs. Lucy Towels was born in month of December in the year of 1830. This union birthed seven children in chronological order: Mattie (1855), Fannie (1858), Isaac Marian (1861), Mary (1863), Thomas Elsworth (1868), and James (1870).

Mattie Towels married Nathan E. Alsobrooks on Thanksgiving Day, the 28th of November in the year 1878. This union of marriage took place Hopkins County according to Hopkins County Marriages, 1846-1890, Vol. 4, Page 334: From: Mrs. Lisa Gammill of The Hopkins County Genealogy Society Researcher. The Towels Family is shown residing in Precinct 2 of Hopkins County in the 1880 United States Federal Census under the spelling Tolls.

Mr. Golden & Mrs. Lucy Towels son Thomas Elsworth Towels married Anabella Clark who birthed nine children, one being Dorothea Mae Towels (1922).

dorothea towles-churchDorothea Mae Towles-Church, the first successful black model in Paris, who discovered personal liberation on the runways of Christian Dior and Elsa Schiaparelli in the 1950’s lived to be 83yrs of age. Mrs. Church’s success was a historic achievement in an industry that had been especially resistant to using any but white models to represent beauty on magazine covers, advertisements and runways. Ms. Church was responsible for breaking down some of those barriers and was revered in France during the five years she modeled there.
