W. T. Godwin Octogenarian Passes Away

W. T. (Wilburn Terrell) Godwin, 82, a resident of Van Zandt county for the past sixty-
five years, died at the family home in the Cream Level section of Van
Zandt county, four miles south of Martins Mill, early Monday morning.
The deceased fell dead shortly after arising this morning. He had
been indisposed for some time but was able to be up Sunday.
Infirmities of age resulted in his death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9:00 o'clock with
interment at Liberty graveyard. Rev. Ben Jones, Baptist minister
conducted the service.

Mr. Godwin was born in Tipper (Tippah?) county, Miss. and came to
Texas in 1870 and settled on the farm where he died. He had only
recently built a new home.

Surviving besides his wife are one son, W. W. Godwin of Murchison
and three daughters, Mrs. J. H. Gates of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Viola
Brown and Mrs. May Tidmore of Murchison. Thirty-nine grandchildren,
elefven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild survive.

Mr. Godwin was a frequent visitor to Athens and was well known to
may residents of this county.

He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Carroll-Lehr had charge of funeral arrangements.
