William Austin Gauntt

Long Time Resident of This County is Buried at Crisp, Ellis Co.
Funeral servises for William Austin Gauntt, 77, (known as
Uncle Buck) who had been a resident of Henderson co, all
but a few years of his life, were held Monday afternoon at 5
o'clock, with burial at Crisp, near Ennis. Mr. Gauntt died
Sunday night. He had been living with children in the Ennis
section only a few years. Having been born at New York and
lived nearly all his life in the Catfish, Carroll Springs, and
Leagueville areas of this co.
The deceased was born at New York on Feb 2, 1858. He
was twice married. First to Miss Callie Elem in 1885. Six
children were born to this union. Mrs. Gauntt died in 1897.
In 1904 Mr. Gauntt married again, his second wife being Miss
Lena Stalter. The marriage took place at New York in this Co.
and is remembered by many old time citizens here

nine children were born to this union. Twelve of his children
are still living as is the second Mrs. Gauntt These children, 15
grand children and two great grand children were present for
the funeral services.
W. A. Gauntt had been a life long member of the Christian
Church and enjoyed a reputation as being a splendid citizen.
He left Henderson co. 5 years ago.
Will Ganuntt of the New York community is among the
surviving children.
